Interesting. Maximum PC recommended ZoneAlarm for Vista.
Maybe it's not ready for prime time yet? I was just going by the ZoneLabs website saying that it is not available yet, but you can register to be notified when it is ready. Strange, isn't it? I'm more concerned about the really bad reviews of Vista.
XP was no bed of roses the first year. I personally didn't buy it until SP2.
just open "Windows Defender" then click "tools" then "software explorer" under the "startup tab" you can remove the "startup programs" from there...
That may well be true for their computers for home/small business use. I will be buying one this summer myself, but already have a brand new version of XP with SP-2 in the unopened box ready to install so I don't have to deal with the Vista crap.
Historically, MS has always offered free "downgrades," where if you call Microsoft licensing, you can get an activation key for an earlier version of their OS. Just tell them you've got a critical application that the vendor says will not work with Vista, or some other excuse you make up. They'll give you a valid activation key, although it will also invalidate the key for your Vista. However, when you are ready to upgrade to Vista, you'll call them again, and give them BOTH activation keys, and they'll give you a brand new key for Vista. You will need an OEM installation CD for XP, and you'll want to be sure you've got a Vista recovery CD.
At least that's the way it always worked up to and including XP.

I'll have a OEM disk for Vista, since it will come with the machine and a legal purchase disc for XP. Not trying to pull anything over on MS, as if they would care, just trying to have a configuration that works best for me.
the problem I had was first figuring out what the bad file was then when that was discovered, I had to then find which program was running it. After I discovered it then there was no problem deleting it.
cool, I'm that glad you got her up and running... are you going to leave it alone or do a fresh install? or try and get rid of it?(return it)
its should be fine, doing what you did you shouldn't have any i'll effects... just make sure that you haven't disabled any of your anti-virus software inside of msconfig ;)
LOL! Fresh install?????? Are you kidding? I went thru all I did only because I had no idea how to do a fresh install and there was no way in hell I was going to call up that shop to ask them for help again!
As for returning it, the thing works and I'm sure it is just as good as when I picked it up. I have enough problems finding employment right now without having to add to the stress of dealing with that knucklehead and fight him to take the computer back.
If I have another problem in the near future then I'll just drop by at about 3:00 a.m. and throw it thru his window..............LOL!
All kidding aside, I'm confident at this point that the computer is going to be ok. It does have an active restore program running on it that just didn't work because of the DSL info that was loaded as soon as I brought it home and set it up..........When I ran it the only restore point I had was just before I had installed the ROXIO thus the DSL connection was not identified as a restore point.
thanks for the link.
