It was 1992, and what little name recognition Bill Clinton had, came from a bizarrely longwinded speech at the 1988 convention. He prattled on and on.

So I was off by 4 years :)

But other than that, I think my point still stands.

..Everybody was SURE the nominee was going to be Cuomo--Clinton came out of nowhere...

And so why do some seem to think that it's so far-fetched for the same thing to happen for Duncan Hunter and the Republican nomination?

P.S. Have you considered holding your breath till you turn blue? How about throwing yourself on the floor at some mall and streaming?

That is like cutting off your arm because you have a cut on it.

No, I think a Rudy nomination for the republican party would be it's death. We're talkin' gangrene here, and amputatable.

..I'm not prepared to argue against your point

But as was pointed out to me (which I knew) Clinton had a plan (which came to fruition 4 years earlier than he anticipated) and a bankroll--which in todays world the requirement could be as much as a $100 million...

To come from so far back would take an act of God--which, from my perspective, is never impossible...

With regard to the war on terror, Rudy is one of the reasons that three (3) illegal alien Middle Easterns terrorists were among the Middle Eastern terrorists that killed nearly three thousand (3,000) Americans on September 11, 2001. Those three (3) were illegal aliens by virtue of their visas having expired.

Rudy supports rewarding millions of illegal aliens with legal status and a path to citizenship. Rudy would allow millions of illegal aliens who are living in the United States after their visas have expired to obtain legal status and a path to citizenship.

I'm supporting Rep. Tancredo. However, if he doesn't run or has dropped out by the time of the Tennessee primary, I will vote for Duncan Hunter if he still running for president at that time.

Duncan Hunter is a true patriot and a true conservative. He will secure this nation's borders.

Rudy is a liberal, pro-abortion, pro-illegal alien RINO.

As an observer and frequent participant at Free Republic, it's not hard to notice that a great deal of the threads about the 2008 Presidential election center around two people, Rudy Giuliani, and Duncan Hunter. That seems odd,

No, it's not odd at all.

Clinton was a governor. A fresh face who made major inroads into the DLC at the time. I distinctly remember warning my wife about Clinton in 1989 while we were on vacation.

She had never heard of him.

While he was a relatively unknown person at the time, times were also different. You have instant credibility as the governor of a state. Congressman frankly come in with a negative reputation which they must overcome.

I'm still looking for the gameplan that makes Hunter a contender later this year. It hasn't been offered here yet.

We'll all blindly fall in line once he's the nominee because the Democrat will be a Marxist nut job.

Or some of us will vote our conscience and cast our ballot to an authentic conservative who runs as an independent or 3rd party candidate, thereby splitting the Republican vote and ensuring a victory for the Democrat Party.

So why don't we avoid that whole mess by nominating an authentic conservative in the first place?

His problem is he is a slave to an inflexible rules-based idealogy. In the real world you can't adher to low-level rules-base programming.

You truly have no idea? Try this: CIC Hillary. Do you really think they want her as their CIC? I'll wager farms I don't own that they don't.

Clinton, like Carter, were 'chosen' candidates, media and liberal establishment creations. They did not just 'pop up' on the national stage by their lonesome.

"That seems odd, because there are other major contenders, notably John McCain, Mitt Romney, and to a lesser extent, Ron Paul, Sam Brownback, and Tom Tancredo."

...yeah, trying to see through Newt's contrail! LOL! ...especially if Newt runs with Hunter!

Rich liberals can spend all that they want to try to turn the Republican Party into a copy of the Democrat Party. It won't work. Keep pushing Giuliani, and you'll get Hillary! And BTW, Hillary already had her way with working class men. Next, she's going after rich feminists and their sugar daddies, so Giuliani supporters have much more to fear than social conservatives.

LOL, not really, although a couple tried.

It's okay, it's been a good discussion and it hasn't degenerated into a flame war.

Lately, that's considered progress around here.

"The Rudy threads are fairly ugly, with a lot of good people throwing mud at each other."

Yeah, and for a reason. Giuliani can't win an election against the mother of his agendas.

"The cans of spam lying in the dust could feed an army."

..."the cans of spam" being redundant, dishonest slogans and insults against Freepers from Giuliani suppoters.
