I do recall a survey on FR taken 8 years ago that somehow manage to declare Alan Keyes as the "consensus" candidate.

I think Buchanan came in as the runner up and then he jumped ship. So much for the consensus coinciding with the populace at large. Too bad historical threads aren't available for review. Some are on wayback but not all.
