Rural Californians Abuzz as Giuliani Is Set To Visit [CA]
NY Sun ^ | 02/11/07 | Josh Gerstein

Posted on 02/11/2007 11:23:05 PM PST by BunnySlippers

As Mayor Giuliani looks over the acres of gleaming tractors, mammoth cotton harvesters, and hightech cow milking equipment at a fair in California's vast agricultural heartland tomorrow morning, he will surely feel like he's a long way from Manhattan.

The prospect of a visit from the man billed as America's mayor already has local folks in California's central valley atwitter. "Honestly, this is probably the biggest name we've had," the chairman of the World Ag Expo in Tulare, Calif., Bruce Shannon, said yesterday.

Mr. Shannon allowed that Mr. Giuliani had "probably not run into a lot of combines and tractors" on the streets of Manhattan, but the organizer said the former New York mayor's reputation precedes him. "Rudy's very popular here," Mr. Shannon said.

In the coming year, these kinds of rural visits and forays to California's sprawling cities could become commonplace for Mr. Giuliani; the Golden State is poised to become a linchpin of his strategy for winning the Republican nomination for president.

One of the key factors pushing California to the fore of Mr. Giuliani's agenda is Governor Schwarzenegger's plan to move the state's presidential primaries up to February 5 from the current date in June.

"I think it will have a big impact," Mr. Giuliani said Saturday after addressing a state party convention in Sacramento. "You're going to have to spend a lot of time here. That's not so hard," he joked.

Don't get your underpants in a wad. This guy thinks the second amendment is about hunting. He will not get the rural vote. His mouth just declared him as a hard core city boy and a not so in the closet gun grabber.

I come from a family of avocado farmers farming in Ventura County since the mid-1800s. I'm from a huge family.

So I KNOW Rudy will get some of the rural vote. (much to your chagrin)

"In a little-noted California poll last month, Mr. Giuliani held a sizable lead over the rest of the Republican field. The American Research Group survey found that Mr. Giuliani had the support of 33% of likely Republican primary voters; a former House speaker who is mulling a bid but not formally exploring one, Newt Gingrich, was at 19%; and Senator McCain of Arizona had 18% support. A former Massachusetts governor who is painting himself as the most viable true conservative in the race, Mitt Romney, had just 3% backing. Some 22% of the 600 Republicans and independents surveyed said they were undecided."

Looks like sensible Republicans in CA may give Rudy the nomination.

There was an old joke about the late Khrushchev in a similar situation, visiting an agricultural and industrial exhibition. The joke went that he was poking his finger at everything, was asking questions, and his aides were piping in with the answers and explanations. So, he finally asked "and what's that a-hole with ears?", and got the answer, "Sir, it is a mirror". "A-hole with ears" then became his affectionate nickname.
Therefore the politicians better avoid all exhibitions.

In Tulare, Calif. We keep hearing from those here who speak for conservatism and who claim to know "the base," that Rudy will be rejected. I wonder when all this distain for Rudy will start showing up in real Republicans? So far, I haven't seen any.

Then again, many of them were stupid enough to vote for the RINO-nator.

From Gallup poll of 2/7/07:

However, when Republicans are told in the context of the survey that Giuliani supports same-sex civil unions and holds a pro-choice position on abortion, the net effect on their expressed chances of backing him is negative. Knowing his social views, more than 4 in 10 Republicans indicate a reduced willingness to support Giuliani. Twenty-five percent say they would be less willing to vote for him, and 18% say they would rule out voting for him entirely.

"sensible"

That, and "reasonable"...

ONLY TWO words out of the liberal demonRAT playbook, and a favorite, I might add, of RINO-rudy's fellow gun-grabber, sarah brady.

Both of these scumbags LOVE ever-increasing, Draconian gun-control, that is, of course, "sensible and reasonable" (in THEIR minds at least).

I, and many other TRUE CONSERVATIVES that don't want a RINO OR a DEM as President, are contributing what we can, thanks for asking.

All's fair in love, war, and politics, so we are doing whatever we can (including, but not limited to, biting wit and satire) to shutdown the left-wing media/liberal push-polling-pollster driven machine that's out there CONSTANTLY harping on getting either a demonRAT, OR a liberal RINO elected.

If you are gettting sucked into supporting a liberal RINO, you are either a demonRAT or liberal RINO yourself, or perhaps severely misguided, stupid, or ignorant.

It was Governor Ronald Reagan of California who signed the Mulford Act in 1967, "prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street." The law was aimed at stopping the Black Panthers, but affected all gun owners.

Twenty-four years later, Reagan was still pushing gun control. "I support the Brady Bill," he said in a March 28, 1991 speech, "and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay."

Ronald Reagan was NOT the perfect candidate for conservatives (unfortunately, there are rarely PERFECT conservative candidates). Some of his views may have been flawed, but he was often saddled with a demonRAT majority and weak-minded RINOs in both houses (in CA and as President).

The difference between him and RINO-rudy, is that Reagan was conservative on MOST of the issues (RINO-rudy is the EXACT opposite, being LIBERAL on MOST of the issues), and Reagan was NOT a rabid, inner-city, northeastern-corridor serial GUN-GRABBER like RINO-rudy.

It seems to me that unless we want a democrat to win the presidency in '08, we need to find a candidate that ALL republicans can get behind... Rudy is obviously not the right person.

We can't win if you siphon off the pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-marriage crowd. We've got to do better than Rudy if we have any intention of winning!

I support whoever gets the nomination. I will vote for ANY Republican (Guiliani, Hunter, Tancredo, Romney, Brownback, etc....up to and including McCain) over a democrat. We live in dangerous times and I do not want an Obama, a Clinton, or any of the rest of that treasonous group in the white House.

The WORST Republican is heads and shoulders above the BEST democrat, because democrat presidents are beholden to unions, leftist blogs, peaceniks, Hollywood, etc. and we would be in serious trouble with one at the helm.

The use of the term "true conservative" raises some red flags with me. I never hear it used by people I condider very conservative, such as DUncan Hunter or Jeff Sessions. The reason they don't use it, you see, is because it implies that "true conservatives" are the only ones who have the answers and everyone else is a poseur. It is an off-putting term wich most people recognize as a prelude to insulting people who don't agree with them.

Now, either you are a conservative who is misguided and thinks that your lame insults qualify as biting wit and satire (which, trust me, they do not) OR you are deliberately trying to cause problems amongst Republicans and conservatives. I don't know which it is, but I will tell you that if you continue to insult people simply because they support someone you do not, I will sadly conclude you are an imposter and disruptor.

During my first enlistment in the Marine Corps, I was on I&I duty with, what became a great friend and room-mate, a fellow Marine named Dennis Treiner.

He was a great Marine and guy, but he did something extremely stupid, and paid the ultimate price.

While kidding around (yes, he should have known better) he pointed what he "knew" was an unloaded 1911 .45 at his head and pulled the trigger (he was making fun of the Russian roulette scene in the movie "Deer Hunter"), instantly killing himself in front of me, another Marine, two female friends from his hometown, and his young fiance (this was in out out-in-town duplex).

Did I turn anti-gun, anti-2nd Amendment after this senseless death of a great friend? Of course not. I did not blame the inanimate object, but the stupidity of my friend. Just as I don't blame the firearms misused by a criminal or a crazed individual. That is misguided and flawed logic.

I don't give ANYONE a break on that type of "logic", even a great man like Ronald Reagan.
