The Catholic school document has him registered as a Muslim nore than likely because that is what his parents registered him as. Certainly at 7 or 8 he wouldnt be registering himself.

If they registered him as Muslim that is more than likely what they wanted him to be.

I have seen claims that his mother was atheist , now they claim his step-father was atheist,

All that doesn't matter in Islam...once a muslims always either a muslim or an apostate...and an apostate has a short grace period to return to Islam or they are subject to death.
