I don't think experience in handling international monetary policy is a prerequisite for President. If so, give me a list of US Presidents that had that prior to taking office.

You posted a nice thread about your favored candidate a few minutes ago, and last time I checked, nobody had shown up to trash him or post the usual annoying spam that we see here.

It's fine to have disagreements with Giuliani over various policy matters. It's quite another to suggest that he's not qualified to be President. He has executive experience, and he has a track record of success in that position. It is pretty much unquestioned that he rescued New York City from its plunge toward hell.

I'm not sure who I will support for President yet, but the unfair attacks on Rudy that go on here constantly are going to backfire.

"Now that Rudy Giuliani has overtaken -- for the moment -- Sen. John McCain as the Republican front-runner, the big question is "why?".

At this stage of the race he is probably the one candidate who can beat Queen Hillary. Although some conservatives will stay clear of him, he will do well with so-called independents, if he gets the nomination.

sounds like we are past due!

With Giuliani? Nah. More like "overripe."

Are you referring to Congressman Duncan Hines who is also named after a cake mix?

Rudy has some serious leadership skills

Giuliani totally took charge after 9/11. He WAS the President, while the real President, Vice President, and members of the Congress and Senate were hiding in a bunker under the city. Bush then came in, riding on the waves of Giuliani, and stood in the rubble, pretending to be the one in charge. Sorry, but it was laughable. Cheney never did re-emerge from his bunker; we never saw him again after that. Giuliani also told that sheik with his $10-million dollar gift where he could shove it.

That's why I'm so torn. Giuliani would make a great president in terms of terrorists & terror. But, in terms of his morals and standards on other issues, such as abortion and gay marriage (to name two), he falls seriously short. So, would his leadership skills be enough to carry us through, or do we need someone with higher principles on ALL facets of life, not just terrorism?

Rudy scares me more than Hillary. I'm dead serious.

In wartime a Hillary as Commander-in-Chief scares me a lot more that Rudy no matter how many dresses he wears, how many wives he's had or how many colored charts are posted.

War is dead serious.

It is complicated. If Giuliani really would pick good Justices for the Supreme Court, it would not matter as much what his personal opinion was about certain issues. I think abortion will ultimately become a state issue. One would hope that a future Supreme Court would uphold First and Second Amendment rights. One area where Giuliani would likely do damage is in his open borders mentality, especially if congress remains Democrat.

We do know without a doubt that a President Obama or a President Clinton would choose Marxists for the Supreme Court. After that, they can just rule by judicial decree -- no need for elections or congress because Marxist judges and special interests will decide everything.

What is the use of propping up a left of center candidate "because he can win" if that candidate does not represent the core basic tenets of the party's base expressed in its platform? Is there still some hope that the candidate will be so grateful he will moderate his views or sustain campaign promise changes made to mollify the party? Haven't we learned from Arnold that this type of thing just doesn't work out?

New York City, if it were a state, would be the 12th most populated state in the country.

Arkansas ranks 32nd.

Rudy turned around that decaying nest of liberals, organized crime, and union thuggery when nobody thought it was possible. That is a huge accomplishment which his detractors cannot deny.

Rudy has some serious leadership skills, and they've always been in plain sight for all to see. That's his trump card, IMHO.

I agree with you. Plus, I think he has an appeal to the fly-over states even though he is a New Yorker. As shallow as it sounds, I think they relate to his look and his way of speaking. He's a little more 'plain talk'.

RUdy's Real Record

Fighting Crime
Under Rudy Giuliani’s leadership as Mayor of the nation’s largest city, murders were cut from 1,946 in 1993 to 649 in 2001, while overall crime – including rapes, assaults, burglary and auto-thefts – fell by an average of 57%. According to the FBI, New York was transformed from the crime capital of the country into the Safest Large City in America, while becoming the global model for excellence in law enforcement. Rudy Giuliani believes that “Public safety is a fundamental civil right…when you reduce crime, you restore people’s freedom.”

Cutting Taxes
Rudy Giuliani cut more taxes than any Mayor in New York City history, reducing or eliminating 23 city taxes, saving individuals and businesses a cumulative $8 billion, while reducing New Yorkers’ tax burden by nearly 20%. By the end of Giuliani’s term in office, New Yorkers enjoyed their lowest tax burden in three decades, along with the creation of approximately 425,000 new private sector jobs.

Fiscal Responsibility
Rudy Giuliani inherited a $2.3 billion dollar budget deficit and turned it into a multi-billion dollar surplus, while cutting taxes and delivering balanced budgets. He cut the number of full-time city workers by more than 20,000 – excluding teachers, firefighters, and police officers – while slowing the growth of government spending to below the rate of inflation.

Welfare Reform
When Rudy Giuliani took office, more than one out of every seven New Yorkers was on welfare, reflecting intergenerational dependency and a weakening of the work ethic. Under his leadership, the City cut welfare rolls by more than 640,000 – to the lowest number since 1966 – eliminating fraud and abuse while turning welfare offices into Job Centers. Rudy Giuliani believes: “At the core of our approach to welfare reform is the basic concept of a social contract—that for every right there is a duty, for every benefit an obligation.”

Improving Education
Rudy Giuliani worked to reform the nation’s largest public school system, with 1.1 million schoolchildren. Under his watch, school funding increased from $8 billion to $12 billion, more than 13,000 new teachers were hired, computers were brought into classrooms and libraries, arts education was permanently restored, and targeted programs were offered to improve literacy and student proficiency in science. At the same time, he insisted on reforms such as an end to social promotion, abolished principal tenure, and created the nation’s first and most generous Charter School Fund. Rudy Giuliani believes that every parent should have “the ability to send their child to the school of their choice, be it public, private, or parochial.”

Quality of Life
When Rudy Giuliani took office, 59% of New Yorkers said they would leave the city the next day if they could, according to a CNN/Time poll. Drawing upon the “Broken Windows” theory of policing, the City cracked down on quality of life crimes such as aggressive panhandling, graffiti, and drug dealing, transforming places like Times Square into safe destinations for theatergoers and sightseers. The City launched an aggressive initiative against drunk drivers, and implemented a ban on sex shops within 500 feet of residential neighborhoods, churches, and schools. In addition, Mayor Giuliani acquired 2,038 acres of new parkland – the most in more than 50 years.

whats it about a million guiliani posts at the moment??

His passionate detractors have no idea what their own tsunami of attention indicates: he the inevitable nominee.

Just examine from whence the political energy explodes and whom it surrounds; in this cycle, on the GOP side, Giuliani's presence is the center point. Ground Zero, if you will.

It will be a fascinating, important, and very bruising battle.

Our best hope is Hunter, who btw has character in abundance.

If voters voted for character we wouldn't be facing the potential of 8 more years of the Clintoons. Giuliani is the best hope we have to keep the Cintoons out.

With all due respect, I think this is a time to be brutally pragmatic and in my book ANY Republican (even a RINO) is better than the Clintoons 'two-for-one' that we may be facing for EIGHT more years! I will support ANY Republican candidate that has a ghost of a chance of defeating the Hilldebeast and her Osama side-kick! I think the economic and social survival of our country depends on this election and the more splintering there is among Republicans the greater the chance of a Hitlery-Osama win. Thanks for letting me rant.

Rudy is the leftist media's favorite. He isn't the conservatives favorite.
Let us know when the media poll includes Duncan Hunter.

It probably never will, because outside of this forum, nobody has ever heard of him.

Here's the only guy who ever became President who came directly from the House of Representatives. He was the Majority Leader in the House, and already Senator-elect at the time of his nomination, so at least people had heard of him.

I see the presidential debut as sort of a political "American Idol."

I pray to God the right man will reveal himself and we'll vote him into office.

Politicians are shape-changers. Let's pray we get a real leader.
