- Would this world benefit from more Viking offspring?
The article:
"Women in Sweden have become less "inclined to use contraceptives. Sales of the morning-after pill have been on the increase, as have the number of abortions, while fewer women are using the contraceptive pill to prevent unwanted pregnancies, Sveriges Radio reports.
Apoteket, Sweden's state-owned pharmaceutical retailer, noted an 11 percent increase in sales of morning-after pills in 2006 compared to the previous year.
The number of abortions was up one and a half percent on figures for 2005, while the number of women using the contraceptive pill is reported to be five percent lower over the same period.
"People are taking more risks and are maybe more inclined to take risks by not planning for the long term," Lena Marion, head physician at Karolinska Institutet's sexual health unit, told Sveriges Radio.
Marion says she is surprised by the number of women coming to her clinic who not use any form of contraception.
"I don't have any statistics on this but I have a feeling that around half the women coming to us who are of childbearing age do not have any form of contraception," she said.
Many of the women at Marion's clinic have stopped using the contraceptive pill for one of two reasons. Either its use has made them become less interested in sex or they have been scared off by warnings in the media, such as fears that the pill may cause blood clots.
The main problem, as she sees it, is that women who stop using the pill do not look at what else is on offer.
"It is important that schools and clinics for young people inform people about the various alternatives. The more alternatives they have the better," said Marion."

Why is this a surprise? Muslims don't overrun countries by using contraceptives. Everybody else's population is getting older. The muslims' median age is getting younger.
Somehow I don't think aborting alive unborn Swedes is a good means of 'birth control'.
"I think the Vikings will have to be cloned. Hopefully they'll iron out the kinks in the procedure before it's too late."
It's never too late.
Maybe there's hope after all for the future of western civilization.

Hey, good lookin'
Wanna party?
"The number of abortions was up one and a half percent on figures for 2005 ..." This is hopeful to you?
Maybe the women actually want to have children. What a welcome change!
Heya Buddy. Long time no see.
Would you intuit this trend along all of Scandinavia? Iceland, Finland, Norway, etc?
Some of us still worry about Europe. Culture's Cradle and all that stuff.
Maybe you should read the article first. Notice that it didn't say anything about an increased birth rate...
I'm staying in Norway right now. Among my fiance's female friends (that I've talked to...I've been here almost two months now), over half have used the morning after pill at least once, three of them have used it as a primary means of birth control.
But abortion law is stricter here than it is back home, so there's one thing at least...though that's not saying much since I live in one of Naral's precious A states.
I just realized how sad it is that I get into abortion discussions with complete strangers in a foreign land. I'm trying to remember now if I just go up to people and say, "Hi, nice to meet you, what do you think about abortion?" or if my fiance goes, "This is Kate. Oh her career? She wants to help end abortion in America."
Well, keep in touch! RU-486 (or whatever it's called these days) is really a symptom of a bigger problem - the loss of personal accountability.
Aging and slightly decadent. America, were it not for immigration, is largely in the same boat.
Rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem and get me outta here.

The Pill issue aside, this also implies these fools are
taking no precautions against STDs, which diseases
include some incurable, and some fatal.
GSlob, they're getting a little help from our friends in the middle east and northern africa.
Nah. A pedigreed Viking kitten goes for 2K, and an abyssinian for much less.
