Romney concedes war poorly managed but still supports Bush
Fox ^ | 2/8/2007 | MIKE GLOVER

DES MOINES, Iowa Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney conceded that the war in Iraq has been poorly managed and may hurt Republicans again next year.

But he refused to oppose the course President Bush has charted.

Romney, who was meeting with activists across central Iowa, told The Associated Press that his support for Bush will not hurt his chances of winning the G-O-P presidential nomination.

Romney concedes much of the strategy used after Saddam Hussein's capture has fallen short.

He said the U-S underprepared and was understaffed "in terms of our military team."

Romney said the U-S -- "created the difficulty that we are in."

While polls have shown an overwhelming majority of Americans oppose Bush's efforts to expand the troop levels in Iraq, Romney said he's willing to give it a chance.

Screw that. I'm sick of hearing it. President Bush is in uncharted territory with this, and I haven't heard anybody put forth their plan on how it could have been done differrently or better. They all sound like John Kerry.

Mitt, cram it. Everybody is looking for cover and what a sad bunch you have to choose from. Good luck to you.

I am with you 100%. This part really bugged me:

Romney said the U-S -- "created the difficulty that we are in."

To me that is Bravo Sierra -- we did not encourage Iran and Al Qaeda to become involved in the fight in Iraq. But Romney says it is all our fault? Give me a break! I have stayed off these Romney threads for a reason but this is way over the top in his comments. Support for the President -- guess you could call it backhanded support.

Someone needs to tell Mitt who has no military experience or background that this war is like no other.
Mitt thinks the war in Iraq has been poorly managed, well what would you have done and on the fly in many cases.
Perhaps why his 5 sons have not served while others are serving their country.

I'm really sick and tired of politician's opinion of the war on Iraq. I think they're more qualified to discuss their failures on the war on drugs, reducing crime, tackling government corruption, eliminating political pandering, wasteful government spending, reducing the number of poor in the country, eliminating illegal immigration, protecting our borders, etc, etc. Romney is proving to be a weakspined coconut politician. I hope Duncan Hunter starts to become more known.

I can't believe Republicans who blame the Bush administration for all the problems in Iraq. Bush didn't micromanage the war, he let his DOD run the show. He has just gone along with whatever they have asked of him. I would like to know who could have done better? All the naysayers, including the talking head retired Generals, have hindsight out the wazoo. There were very few who didn't support going into Iraq. Let the military fight it their way and we will come out all right. It's the PC garbage that has had us bogged down.

..I'm sorry, but that sounds to me a lot like "I'm against the war, but support the troops"...

Hitlery will be the new president in 2008, because of BS candidates in the GOP.
This is really sad. Everyone wants to be the not-Bush.

Everybody ... and I do mean everybody ... should be quiet and let the military manage the war. Kill folks and break things. Crush the enemy with extreme prejudice.

We would not be having these conversations if the military were allowed to do what they do best. God Bless the troops.

Exactly! I am 100% in concert with letting the military handle the war and the politicans to shut up!

It's funny. These Republicans think they're going to win over some moonbat votes by questioning the war. Romney, you idiot. The people you have to go through to make it to the WH are CONSERVATIVE primary voters.

Romney comes over as weak. He'll just say what he thinks will get himself nominated. Like his last minute conversions on social issues.

Pretty much everybody posting up until now expresses the same view. Romney STFU. The war mismanaged? Our men and women are fighting a war that has never been fought before. What war has not been mismanaged at some point.

The only thing that the administration should have done is confront the enemy's fifth column, the msm. Why they left this front of traitorous a$$holes undefended is beyond me.

Would that include having, "rules of engagement?"

" Romney concedes much of the strategy used after Saddam Hussein's capture has fallen short. "

As they stand up, we'll stand down, Romney needs to quit reading the NYTimes and start Freepin' to understand what is going on.

Staying the course to get them standing needs to continue.

Find me an issue that Slick Mitt is not on both sides. This guy is truly amazing.

"Romney concedes war poorly managed but still supports Bush" Don't forget that he managed the Olympics so well that Iraq would be a walk in the park for him. Another "Manager" with a corner office with glass.
