He's Ready If You Are (Rudy Giuliani)
American Spectator ^ | Feb 8, 2007 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.,

Rudy Giuliani will prevent a conservative crack-up.

Today, after very little effort, Giuliani is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Dick Morris is predicting a Giuliani vs. Clinton race in 2008. Yet some conservatives are dubious of the man who cleaned up New York, returned it to a vigor unimaginable from the 1960s through the 1980s, and then led New York and the country heroically through 9/11. Well, one knows a politician by the company he keeps, and Giuliani has around him the financial people who created the libertarian-conservative Manhattan Institute. He relied heavily on the Institute's policies while governing New York. He will rely on libertarian-conservative policy makers in his race for the White House and once there.

Sorry, I'd rather not see a social liberal as the Republican nominee.

Do you know if there is a Newt for President ping list? I would love to be on it. He seems to have it all, if he would just get in.

Running a candidate with such a miserable track record on a particular issue that even hard-core leftist Democrats won't touch with a ten-foot pole makes no sense at all.

I don't believe there are too many gun owners who would abdicate on this issue at all. They tend to be among the most non-partisan, single-issue voters of them all.

The GOP will only win by holding the base and attracting conservative Reagan Dems with a pro-war, pro-life, pro-gun message.

Do you think we might find something better than 'pro-war'? I realize it's just shorthand for anyone 'pro-winning-the-war-we-are-now-in', but it's too easly misinterpreted and anyone actually in favor of war is not quite sane. Sherman once said "War is Hell". I doubt you're pro-Hell, too. Perhaps 'pro-victory' might be better. In any case, I'm sure we can do better. I'm sure many from DU and other places less fanatic love taking these kinds of quotes off FR to prove what warmongers we all are.

When we abandon our principles for power, we ultimately end up with neither.

How about, pro-WOT or, pro-GWOT. Personally, I do like pro-war. It has a winning feel to it.

Didn't I tell you not to post to me sometime ago when you came at me for daring to post on YOUR thread that I thought Novak had the credibility of a gnat? After the Wilson deal, I cannot believe anyone pays attention to Novak. It stood then and it stands today.

I am not going on any of your threads trying to bait people and wish you would do the same. I don't like Novak and you don't like Tyrrell so we are even.

Rudy opposes any partial birth abortion ban that doesn't include the health of the mother. If it includes the health of the mother he supports the partial birth abortion ban.

WRONG !

During the last ABC, 770 news break, it was just announced that a new poll, taken in PENNSYLVANIA, has Rudy winning and not only winning the nomination, but beating Hillary ..............BIG TIME!

But go right on living in that delusional haze. :-)

I can see it now, Rudy will be the republican nominee and some conervative will run as an independent and hand the White House keys to Hillary.

Well Chad, there is another answer. Perhaps you guys should vote for a real conservative, because conservative Christians are NOT going to vote for Rudy (except for the 3 from FR). LOL!

The Conservative Christians are the voting block that handed control to the RATS this past election, because they REFUSED to vote for another lying RINO. What we have is a record proving that they are NOT going to vote for another RINO, so all you folks who are determined to vote for RINOS better forget that and get behind the conservative candidate, or you guys will hand the election over to Hillary!

Excuse me. First off, just like me, you're in no position to make any demands. You posted this THREAD. FR is an open forum and I'm commenting on the specific issue of the thread. If you post a thread, I will respond. You are not going to stop me from posting. My response was factual and truthful. And that is why your whining.

Newt can only drive a further wedge between those GOP voters. He is NOT someone who can or will bring us all together.

He was just on Sean's radio show and Sean put the screws to him, asking WHY he won't announce now and Newt gave THE lamest, most STUIPD answer of all time! He said "this is not the time, I'm waiting until OCTONER to even consider it, it is far too early.

IF he is even toying with the idea of running, waiting until OCTOBER to even consider running, then he is a mordant idiot! Most of the big money men, political backing, and the best of the best people for being on one's team, will be wrapped up in a matter of months; if not already!

Newt has the same, if not worse negative numbers than Hillary has and not all of those people are Dems!

Forget about Newt being the president............EVER!

"If it includes the health of the mother he supports the partial birth abortion ban."

Partial birth abortion means the baby's mostly out. Can you give an example to this old numbskull, where ma's life would be saved by sticking a scissors in and vacuuming out the brains. Just trying to understand what he's thinking. Thanks.

He's not thinking anything . . . he's twisting himself into knots trying to reconcile his disgraceful, radically pro-abortion position with the established platform of the party whose nomination he's trying to secure.

... and then led New York and the country heroically through 9/11.

You know a MAJOR case of Presidential lame duckness has taken hold when anyone can say something like that and there is no comment about it at all.
Where was that Bush guy all that time?

You don't leave health of the mother out in any abortion issues IMHO. Once the health of the mother is left in, the courts are letting the bans stay.

I feel the same way and don't see why anyone would object.
