BAGHDAD, Iraq: Gunmen burst into two houses belonging to a Sunni Muslim family northeast of Baghdad on Thursday, killing 14 relatives, police said.

The attack occurred around 1 p.m. local time in the village of Rufayaat, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) east of Balad. Balad is a majority Shiite town 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of the Iraqi capital, but it is surrounded by territory that is mainly populated by Sunnis.

At least 10 gunmen piled into two vehicles broke into the homes, then separated women and children from their male relatives. All 14 victims were men, ranging in age from 15 to 75, a police captain said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the matter.

U.S. troops arrived at the scene afterward, and evacuated a wounded man to an American military hospital, the Iraqi captain said. The U.S. military had no immediate comment.

Sunnis are the minority responsible for all the bombing so it look like the majority is finally standing up to stop them.

I have no dog in this Shia-Sunni thing. But I have seriously no reason to decry this. Only male adults were targeted, while woman and children were spared. This actually, as harsh as it is, is the normal way of handling terrorists/insurgents.

I'll wait for some official verification anyway .

Jamil Hussein?

The Jamil Hussein incident wised them all up. They now do it the American way (condition of anonymity).

They do not want to be visited by the goons of the Health Ministry you know!

I have no problem with them protecting themselves being the reason for anonymity but until the military says something about it, to me it's just more of the same propaganda. The MSM has been playing two ends against the middle because their other source was deputy Health Minister Hakim al-Zamili.
