According to the above article the month with highest number of downed helicopters was January 2004. So it's actually not new... except the media now has found a new issue to beat around.

I'm not denying there has been a new and tragic rise in downed copters, but I'm not only seeing a new pattern by insurgents, but also by their media allies.

Reporting was contributed by David Cloud in Washington, Ali Adeeb and Qais Mizher in Baghdad and an Iraqi employee of the New York Times.

FYI

If Bush leaks "classified" info to the press that Iran is sending Streylas to Iraq, then MSM trumpeting about troop killing helo crashes lays the groundwork for escalation with Iran.

Kinda nice to have the Liberal press working for us for a change, eh?

Yup. My question was why. Is it just a statistical thing or have the insurgents learned new ways to shoot down copters?
