A U.S. Army CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter flew over Baghdad on Wednesday. Another Sea Knight helicopter went down in Iraq the same day. (Marko Drobnjakovic/AP)

Oh well. I guess they have to stop flying helocopters.
What would a real superpower do?

The last reported "crashed" helicopter didn't crash, but had a hard landing, with no one injured. The media is inflating the numbers and incidents.

Choppers are inherently vulnerable to ground fire. What's new?

We started losing B-52s over North Vietnam the same way - seemingly impervious for years and then suddenly you lose a half dozen in a week.
I remember a lot of the crews immediately became COs (Conscientious Objectors).

We lost like how many choppers in Vietnam? Four thousand plus comes to mind ... so in ten years, what's the daily count?

A U.S. Army CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter The Army doesn't fly the Sea Knight, the Marines and Navy do. The Army uses the larger, but similar, CH-47 Chinook.

Almost no details in the article. Can't tell whether this is due to new tactics, new weapons or just a statistical anomaly.

Gates in not smart enough to use the A-10

The US Army flies CH47 Chinook's. I didn't know they had CH46's. Good info.
I imagine there are spotters near airfields who are relaying flight info along probable flight routes.

There are times when I really wonder if we aren't training some of the very guys that are turning around later on and killing our soldiers.
Frankly, at this point I don't trust any of the Iraqis at all, outside of perhaps the Kurds.

Use A-10's, and let them kinow what hell is really like. Have them gwet a taste of that GAU-30, and our sheet bedecked pals will go home.
Oh! I'm sorry. That means I don't care about their feelings. Heh heh, as if I care.
