A COWARDLY CONGRESS
New York Post ^ | February 7, 2007 | Editorial

By endorsing the Petraeus and Fallon appointments, Congress has by extension also endorsed the mission they've been dispatched to accomplish.

Undercutting the effort with wrongheaded resolutions is at once dishonorable and cowardly.

Bottom line: Congress sent Petraeus and Fallon off to war. Does it now mean to shoot them in the back?

As Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), who remains a beacon of light on Iraq, told his colleagues: "We cannot have it both ways. We cannot vote full confidence in Gen. Petraeus, but no confidence in his strategy. We cannot say that the troops have our full support, but disavow their mission on the eve of battle."

Worse still, those pushing for this resolution - which would have no actual practical effect on the war effort - fail to appreciate its potential impact on the troops now risking their lives in Iraq.

Indeed, said Lieberman, the Library of Congress confirmed that "never before, when American soldiers have been in harm's way, fighting and dying in a conflict that Congress had voted to authorize, has Congress turned around and passed a resolution like this, disapproving of a particular battlefield strategy."

The libs are pure anti-American filth. Why this type of behavior is tolerated in our own Congress, is beyond belief. And we have RINOs like McCain running around, trying to put restrictions on the Internet, while this type of treason is taking place in our Congress, in an attempt to undermine our war effort and our military...

What in the hell is going on ???

Politics and a power grab. It doesn't matter who gets killed in the process.

Seems to me the answer is obvious.

And yes, I am Questioning their patriotism.

Any military member that is put in command is obligated to follow the orders of the Commander and Chief, unless the order is illegal. It doesn't matter who gets put in charge, they're going to be charged with the same mission and have the same resources to do the job with.

RE: Senator Lieberman. I'm sure there are many people here who won't understand the fact I sent money to Senator Liebermans campaign. The man is a true American Statesman. May God send us more like him.

I too, am dismayed at this rare display of anti-Americanism.

The twisted logic they use is unbearable in peacetime, but completely outrageous when we have people in harms way.

As for the exact motive of these people, I think it is impossible to pin down a specific detail because the democrat party is a chaotic assemblage of abortionists, pot heads, gays determined to be married with government approval, pacifists, and anarachists, to name a few.

They just need power. They can't get any of this extreme agenda accomplished without it and they know that if they compete on a fair playing field they can't win, so they must make it unfair. They must use billions of $$ worth of influence from hollywood and liberal media(which they get free) they must use singers and actors to threaten to leave the country and 'vote or die' and all kinds of extreme nonsense. They must attack the new conservative media and attempt to undermine it because it threatens to bring actual fairness back to the playing field. They have tried everything imaginable.

To this end, they have used a twisted psychology that I believe is terribly harmful to our citizens, and to our nation as a whole. The national psyche has been hammered.

During Clinton's term there was a whipped up hysteria about church burnings. This was not rocket science. Around 98% of the burnings were due to old wiring and old wooden buildings. It is a simple fact that there were no more churches going up in flames in 1996, than in any previous year. But Clinton went for the photo op, treading on the smoldering ashes, biting his lip, staring like a pop star into the distance, never bothering to assuage the fears and hurt in our nation from this overinflated stunt, which would have been the Presidential thing to do. Instead, he used it to get himself get re-elected. It leaves one to consider if it wasn't his own people who concocted the whole thing to begin with. After the election his "Presidential Panel on Church Burnings" returned the verdict: Nothing was out of the ordinary. This is how far they have gone, and how far they will go.

The extreme left wing claims the mainstream conservative is extreme. They claim the extreme liberal press is an extreme conservative press. They have created an environment where many people are afraid to speak about politics in the open any more. They have attached vicious visions and improper hateful meanings to conservative stances, largely unrebutted, to the point if you talk about conservatism, you fear to offend someone and provoke an attack on yourself. They have created fear, where there should be none.

This is not healthy for a nation of hundreds of millions of people. I pray it does not reap dividends.

The next time we go to war, we need to steel ourselves for the liberal pranks that are sure to come. Let this war serve as an example.

Our cause is just. We were viciously attacked. Our enemy did not give us a front line, so our President went out and made us one.

Further, there is a sickness in the middle east. It is a sickness to strap explosives on your wife as you walk into a wedding party full of innocent people. It is a sickness to drive a car bomb into a market full of women and children. This is why freedom must come, or we will face so much worse than we ever saw on 9-11. We are under attack, and we either fight now, or we will certainly die later.
