A Muslim leader has warned that Britain is moving towards a "police state," comparing the situation to Nazi Germany after the anti-terror raids in the city of Birmingham this week.
But Mohammad Naseem, chairman of Birmingham's Central Mosque, urged Muslims to show restraint following the raids, in which nine suspects were arrested over allegations of plotting an "Iraq-style" kidnapping and filmed beheading.
"The country is moving toward a police state. That's not right. We have to change this," he said inside the mosque, where some 2,000 Muslims gathered for weekly Friday prayers.
"We can change this for the better by coming together, not by coming apart. .. Remain calm, don't get angry. Anger is a natural emotion, but Muslims should control it. We must never give way to anger," he said.
Speaking outside the mosque shortly before the prayer session began, he compared the current situation, and anti-terrorism legislation introduced in Britain in recent years, to Nazi Germany.
"The German people were told the Jews were a threat. The same thing is happening here. The Muslims are now the bogey people," he said. "It's a small community. It's easy to pick on them. That's what's being done."
Tempers are high after the raids, which were accompanied by allegations that the suspects were planning to kidnap and behead a British Muslim soldier, and post a video of the execution on the Internet.
Police were on Thursday given more time to question the nine suspects, all of them said by neighbours to be Britons of Pakistani origin, and mostly family men with children.

They gather for prayers and as soon as they dispense with the allah akbar it's on to politics. islam should be declared a political movement not a religion. I fear eventually it will have to be eradicated.

If the Brits were really like the Nazis, they'd be processing their Muslims thru gas chambers.
Of course, that is not a very good comparison, either, since the German Jews did not bomb subways, destroy skyscrapers, or hijack airplanes.

Okay, so let me get this right. The British police stop a terrorist plot and this guy is upset at the police. Why is he not upset at the terrorists?

That documentary was truly creepy. I watched in amazement, and do not understand why the Brits haven't closed those mosques down. What is going on there is nothing less than sedition. (Paging Mad Ivan) It should get wide replay in this country so everyone will know the evil we are up against.
I grew up in a tough police state town that would give rights advocates the fits today. Had no whackos, killers, perverts on the lose to worry about back then. Seems to me only those who oppose police powers to fight crime have no moral compass or compassion for their communities.

I read the same article. You posted almost word for word what I was thinking. The only difference is I would have substituted "says" for "thinks".
You can never be sure what a person says and what he thinks are identical. This is particularly true of Muslims.
If I were Mohammed Naseem, I would depart the British police state on the next flight out. I would also take care that the door does not hit me on my Moslem buttocks as I remove them from British soil.
