WASHINGTON — The New York Times will express regret for hurting the feelings of the family of a Texas soldier after publishing a photograph and a video showing him as he lay dying in Baghdad.

The letter is part of an agreement reached Wednesday between the Army and the Times to resolve a controversy about the use of images of Staff Sgt. Hector Leija without his consent.

Imagine the outrage if the Army had published images of a wounded New York Times reporter....

In the eyes of the drive by media, the only useful soldier is a dead soldier, or so you would believe from their reporting.

Take the reporter and photographer to an empty field and take care of business. Heck with all this letter writing apologies because the damage is done and it was done in a treasonous way.

This is just evidence of the fact that the NY Times does not view soldiers as people. They are statistics to be used to boost circulation and further their own political agenda.

Those scumbags eat their own ... the MSM would try to make a buck or two (along with a few political points) with the video of the wounded New Dork Times reporter.

Yeah right....

I look for the lies to harm our soldiers on the front page with the apologies two days later on the very back page in small letters right under the Viagra ads.

The real story is alot sicker that this Houston Chronicle article shows. The reporter for the NYT called a HS Principal and asked him to show this gory stuff to the dead man's family. Bottom of the article in this link.

The only thing the NYT would understand is a multi-million dollar lawsuit. They're all for John Edwards type ambulance chasers. Let them try some of thier own medicine.

HURTING THE FEELINGS???

How about "offending" or "upsetting" or some term a little less condescending?

Oh, yeah. "We're sorry if anyone was stupid enough to be offended by our publication of a baby-killing stormtrooper getting his just deserts but if it weren't for the lying, criminal Bush regime he'd never have been there in the first place." Something along those lines.

What is the average time for an death notification from the military these days? They published only five days after the death. Could they have published it before the family even knew?

I smell a rightful, juicy lawsuit in this one.

The NYT is EVIL. HOW could they do this?

The sheer inhumanity of this decision really amazes me. I can't fathom how any human being would see this as appropriate, moral, or acceptable in any way.

What a tragedy for the family. And to use them as pawns in their pigheaded game is just beyond the scope humanity.

Not good enough by a long shot. Congress seems to feel like they've got lots of time on their hands to write pointless announcements...they need to censure the NYT and pass that.

Tell me, what is it that separates the ghouls at tne New York Times from the sadists in al-Qaeda who videotape and post beheadings?

Is there no shame, no judgment, no humanity at the New York Times? Is there only the shallow, mindless servitude to a perverse agenda?

The people directly responsible for this travesty should burn in hell.

From a filing by THE new york times with the SEC, on 1/27/07:

On January 29, 2007, the Audit Committee and management of the Company concluded that the Company's previously issued financial statements reflected certain reporting errors ...

The Audit Committee and Company management have concluded that...previously issued annual financial statements ... should not be relied upon.

Why am I not surprised?

an agreement reached Wednesday between the Army and the Times to resolve a controversy about the use of images of Staff Sgt. Hector Leija without his consent.

So the reason the NYT is getting all right-minded is that the ARMY is going after them via the legal system. It's a pathetic sign of our times that the newspaper has to be guided into acting like it has a conscience by such a course of action.

why don't they show the photos of the WSJ reporter beheaded....or the people jumping to their deaths from the WTC...or Nick Berg's beheading video...they want the "reality" of the war...

F'ing hypocrites..... I'd take the first new york times reporter or CNN reporter out on a night hop and take a stroll behind a chopper as we were leaving on patrol..... just to "look at the tail rotor" light and make sure it's operational.... accidents happen doncha know.

backing up a deuce and not hearing somebody trying to use the back wheels to climb aboard......happens all the time ...act of God....

hell an "accidental discharge" while cleaning my weapon could even happen.... or the infamous "rogue" sniper shot...

if my friend's or brothers body was used as advertisement for some anti-war cr@p, I just would probably get my 2 bed condo in Ft. Leavenworth ready.

The times and the reporters who suck need to be shown the exit.

Personally, I think someone ought to caution those reporters about their habit of walking around staircases at night with pillow cases over their heads. A fellow could get seriously hurt doing a thing like that ;-)

TAKEN FROM a Post :

" The MEDIA : What will it take for Patriotic Americans to end the Anti-Americanism and Aiding America's Enemies by todays Liberal Media: Meaning ALL MEDIA Today..--"

This is at the end of the article/post:

I am only reproducing this post because of what with this Airing of the Photos and Video of the U.S. Soldier has once again PROVED : That the MEDIA is AMERICA'S Enemy too! But w
But what to do?

"...During the American Revolution; After much debate, soul-searching, and attempts at compromise with the British Crown-had only managed to produce that Beautiful, Moving, Historic and World Shaking document called the
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE- where our Grand and Inspired FOUNDING FATHERS- After VOTING and a MAJORITY winning the movement- won their case for INDEPENDENCE- even those AGAINST the idea of breaking with England who they did truely love-SIGNED THE DECLARATION and thus SWEARING their allegiance to any and all actions/support; both in Military, their Wealth and their lives! moved to support the MAJORITY---

(Bear with me here please..)

--THOSE WHO VOTED AGAINST Seperation and Independence--and those who truely could NOT in good consceious think about Independence LEFT FOR ENGLAND--and all others where given a good grace period to SAIL BACK to ENGLAND!

Those Remaining LOYAL to England; taking Englands SIDE Militarily and monetarily-directly were called TORIES and RAN OUT!! or as Spies and Sabatoures who were ANTI-INDEPENDENCE who took DIRECT ACTIONS and/or SUPPORTED THOSE whose known actions were to AID the British - were arrested-trailed- and hung as traitors and spies.

Here:

Our TRATORS..Our " FRIENDS TO THE TERRORISTS" and those who hold ANTI-American philosophies and Agendas--who wish to see OUR "Failure" ; and THUS see our National Interests, Our National Security, OUR CITIZENS' very LIVES Jeopardized as in 9/11!! and many more such planned actions! and see
OUR BRAVE ARMIES put into Deadly situations and have their MILITARY PLANS MADE KNOWN PUBLICALLY to our Enemies-

IT'S CALLED AIDING AN ENEMY!!

In other so-called "Enlightened " Nations: Cuba, Russia, China, S. Korea Those who are TRAITOR TO THE CAUSE AND MOTHERLAND are Caught- No Trail-and never heard from again --
after WW2- the WEREWOLVES went thru Germany-hunted down the "Traitors to the New Founding democratic Germany" and shot them as they were known to blow up Germany's newly forming Gov't and Civil Workes like Civic Gov't buildings and leaders, Trains and Communication workings.

In the American Revolution; Traitors and Spies and those who gave SECRETS and COMFORT to our then Enemy were Bound, Blind folded and shot. OUR FOUNDING FATHERS HAD IT RIGHT BACK THEN.

TODAY??? "AMERICANS"- even those PATRIOTIC Americans Have NEVER , Are not NOW- and never WILL EVER get "The Truth" from todays Media.

Our Traitors OWN Stations, whole newspaper chains and sub-chains- "OWN" reporters and OWN EDITORS and the TALKING HEADS on TV.

Our TRAITORS sit in SENATE and CONGRESS seats.
( One even just announced she'll leave her NY Senate seat to Run for the W.H. and with the media behind her she WILL WIN)

OUR Traitors sit in Supreme Court and where Black Robes.

OUR TRAITOR ARE the MEDIA! the WHOLE Media-and nothing BUT the Media.

And THEY are out there--walking round. Alive and well.

Unstoppable.

Because it will take MORE than just a few, well-meaning
" Patriotic Americans " , will take MORE than a few
" Rallies" in DC which NEVER gets reported on anyhow-
Will take MORE than VOTES,..and will take MORE than jut a few well-wishers Posting their posts like me; safe and vain, in my livingroom,

It will take MORE than just TALK and a few "Patriotic Americans" to bring them down.

Yet..Bring them down we must. It's THEM or America's Future, and THEY are winning.

Thank you for reading my post.

I doubt that they keep statistics like "average time." A casualty assistance officer is to notify the NOK within 24 hours of the initial notification.

You can read DoD Instruction 1300.18, "Military Personnel Casualty Matters, Policies, and Procedures" here:
