Giving radical Islam its start
Towhnall.com ^ | Monday, January 29, 2007 | Dinesh D'Souza

Recently Jimmy Carter was on television, denouncing President Bush’s policies in Iraq. I find this highly ironic, because Jimmy Carter and his liberal advisers helped the Ayatollah Khomeini to come to power in Iran a quarter of a century ago. Thus they gave radical Islam control of its first major state. How this happened is worth recalling, because from Carter’s failure there’s a valuable lesson to be learned in Iraq.

Radical islam started in the 7th century AD. It doesn't matter what any modern person does, the hadith and koran prescribe the so-called 'radical' islam as the only islam.

July 1979: President Carter Approves Covert Aid to Anti-Soviet Forces in Afghanistan

President Carter authorizes covert aid for anti-Soviet forces in Afghanistan. According to his National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, this was part of a deliberate policy to inflame militant Islamic fundamentalism in the region with the aim of forcing the Soviets to invade. The CIA, Pakistani ISI, and others had been supporting anti-Soviet forces already for years and such support had particularly increased in 1978 (see 1973-1979). [Le Nouvel Observateur (Paris), 1/15/1999] The Soviets do invade Afghanistan six months later (see December 26, 1979).

I have always liked Dinesh D'Souza and plan to buy his new book. I glanced at some conservative blogger today (linked from Jihad Watch) and they are giving him hell over something. Did not have time to read it all, but it seemed pretty silly imho.

The guy is an intellectual giant on OUR side, and we do better to go after the REAL ENEMY...The jihadi's and the leftists! Just my two cents....

I haven't caught yet on to the controversy (?) concerning Dinesh. Maybe this upcoming weekend. I agree with you that he is a bright conservative.

But the key thing here is that he is telling a very significant truth that the MSM is ignoring. The Carter inspired overthrow of the Shah was a tremendous setback for American interests. Imagine how the world would be today if Iran were secular and on our side. Imagine that Iran had been secular and on our side for the last thirty years. Rather than supporting Radical Islam for thirty years, Iran would have opposed it. I very much doubt that 9/11 would have happened.

I loved D'Souza's book: "What's so Great about America"

Check it out, if you have never read it.

Headed to watch 24...LOL.

Thanks for the link. And Thanks for reminding me of his book "What's so Great about America."

I like Robert Spencer. He is very knowledgeable about Islam and he is risking his life in writing as he does.

I've liked Dinesh for sometime. He wrote a very positive and inspiring biography of Ronald Reagan, among other things.

Anyway, I saw this article as Carter/Democrat bashing - not US bashing. Of course the main thing is the truth. I'll give everyone their proper due, as best I can. But I recollect the left taking way too much pleasure in the overthrow of a "right-wing" (i.e. pro-American) "dictator," the Shah of Iran. I'm glad Dinesh is calling them on it.

Last comment from me for tonight. I just went to:
http://www.townhall.com/talkradio/Show.aspx?RadioShowId=22
and listened to Dinesh's 40 minute speech at the Young America's Foundation. He is patriotic and sounds reasonable when you get to hear him directly. It may be that he has gone astray in some way, but I still have not seen the evidence. It could be that he has been misrepresented also. I'll try to get to the bottom of this, but not tonight. Nice chatting.
