President Bush traveled to Wilmington, Delaware today, where he discussed his Energy Initiative in the Hotel du Pont's DuPont's theater. Afterward, he toured DuPont's Experimental Station. The full text of the President's remarks can be read here.
Earlier in the day, President Bush signed an Executive Order, To Support Alternative Fuel Use And Help The Federal Government Reduce Oil Use. The Order requires Federal Agencies to lead by example in advancing the Nation's energy security and environmental performance through effective environmental, energy, and transportation management.
Executive Order: Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management.
This afternoon, President Bush met with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Combatant Commanders in the Cabinet Room of the White House.
He greeted the Joint Chiefs and Combatant Commanders and said
"It's my pleasure to welcome Secretary Gates, the Joint Chiefs, and the combatant commanders to the White House. First of all, it's an honor to be in the presence of such fine citizens, men who are doing their duty to protect this country. And we have no more solemn duty than to protect America in this war against extremists and radicals.
I'm looking forward to our discussion about the theaters in which you are representing America. I'm looking forward to discussion about the new way forward in Iraq. I thank you for your service.
I also call upon the Senate to move quickly to confirm Lieutenant General Petraeus as the Commander of the Multinational Forces Iraq, Admiral Fallon as the Commander of Central Command, and General Casey as the Army Chief of Staff. It is important to get these three fine individuals in their posts as soon as possible so that we have continuity as we do our duty to protect the American people.
We'll have a wide-ranging discussion here, and then Laura and I have the high privilege of welcoming you and your spouses to dinner tonight. Welcome, and thank you for coming."

Quote of the Day
This is not the fight we entered in Iraq, but it is the fight we're in. Every one of us wishes this war were over and won. Yet it would not be like us to leave our promises unkept, our friends abandoned, and our own security at risk. Ladies and gentlemen: On this day, at this hour, it is still within our power to shape the outcome of this battle. Let us find our resolve, and turn events toward victory.
I respect you and the arguments you've made. We went into this largely united, in our assumptions and in our convictions. And whatever you voted for, you did not vote for failure. Our country is pursuing a new strategy in Iraq, and I ask you to give it a chance to work. And I ask you to support our troops in the field, and those on their way.
This is a decent and honorable country -- and resilient, too. We've been through a lot together. We've met challenges and faced dangers, and we know that more lie ahead. Yet we can go forward with confidence -- because the State of our Union is strong, our cause in the world is right, and tonight that cause goes on. God bless.

Good evening. Still smiling at the wonderful speech by our beloved President last evening.

President George W. Bush talks about his energy initiatives at Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington, Del., Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007. "American automobile companies, as well as foreign automobile companies competing for market share here in the United States, understand that's where the consumer mentality is evolving," said President Bush. "And they're beginning to spend their own money, as well as help from the federal government, to develop new batteries. It's going to be an exciting time, really, when you think about it, when you're able to drive the first 20 miles in a plug-in hybrid vehicle without one drop of gasoline, which makes the country less dependent on oil." President George W. Bush tours the Dupont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del., Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007. I made the case last night to the American people that we have got to do something about our dependence on oil -- for two reasons, said the President during his remarks at Hotel Du Pont after his tour. One, dependence on oil provides an economic and national security risk, a problem that this country better start dealing with in a serious fashion now, before it becomes acute. And second, we've got to be wise stewards of the environment, and dependency on oil makes it harder to be wise stewards of the environment. White House photo by Paul Morse

Ahhhummm...I'm telling!!! Bad, Bad, bad little onyz! Hahahahaha!!!
"Good evening. Still smiling at the wonderful speech by our beloved President last evening."
I join you in an extended smile from last evening . . . our beloved President was AWESOME!
I just got my pic for the toaster...lol
I love the pics of Mutombo and Mr. Autrey. I had no idea how tall Mutombo is until he stood up. Whoa!! And it looked like Mr. Autrey was having a good time! What a special day for him. I bet he had no idea his good deed would get him a box seat at the State of the Union address in addition to the other honors he's received.
Pelosi in #23! LOL!!!! Her over-the top-glad-handing President Bush is despicable in light of what she has said about him.
Hiya Meg33! Good to see you.
Yo!! You are a pretty good ...ahemmm....artist. Hehehe.
Hello. Thanks for the ping.
LOL! Onyx, I adore you. :)
Which one? I got the scribbling one from ohioWfan and I asked snugs to do the black X's.
He's quite a guy and I'll wager he's a Republican.
I'm so happy to see you!
I detest "Grandma Evita." She should hang her sorry head in shame, buy she's too busy trying to prove that she's tougher and more coarse than any man.

Hiya ((( lysie ))) Thanks for that stress relief posting last night.
(((onyx)))
LOL --- I "figgered" that.
Thank you, ilovew, I adore you too, as you well know.
No kidding.
Hee-haw = perfect caption. LOL
What makes it even funnier to me is that I imagine her sitting in her computer room scratching and scratching on that picture, muttering "And then you said THIS and then you did THAT and we are SICK of you!!!"
LOL!
It's nice to hear. :) By the way, I decided on a topic for my thesis. "Times of Crisis: The Similarities between Winston Churchill and George W. Bush." What do ya think?
We have guests for a week, so I will be here sporadically. I wanted to tell everyone something I heard Rush say today. (I know many are not pleased with him, myself included at times, but the radio was on for a bit in the car today and I heard a small portion of the show.) Anyway, Rush played the beginning of the speech last night when GWB introduced the Speaker. Rush said (speaking of GWB's introduction) "That was the epitome of class." I so agree. I would have found that incredibly difficult to do. I am so proud of our wonderful president!
Gotta post and run..sorry. I hope everyone has a good evening. This has the makings of a fun thread! Great dose Onyx. Thanks!!
FOTFL. It's a keeper and worthy of reposting on Grandma Evita threads.
