Maybe he and Harry Reid can trade tips.

After all, Reid and the Democrats want to "purify" talk radio, cable TV, and the Web of all that "unfair" right-wing extremism.

Whats funny is Taiwan has'nt ever been part of communist china.Japan was in control since 1895 until we defeated them in WW2 and let the real rulers of china have it back. Them came the murdering godless Mao who took over. Its not communist china's territory but the free people of the RoC(the real chinese government).

Maybe the Chinese need some type of "gatekeeping function" like Hillary wanted for the internet.

For "purify" read "eliminate word of Chinese government corruption."

the country's sprawling, unruly online population

The modern generation is not excited by neo-Confucianism. Service to the state is not a priority. Look out, Hu! they want freedom and wealth, not control.

But, luckily for them, they are aided by Yahoo and Google.

"Analysis: Yahoo's China problem

Ahead of a Congressional hearing, the Chinese Web portal has been blamed for the jailing of a second Chinese dissident.
How many Chinese citizens are now in jail because of information Yahoo provided to the Chinese government?"

And, according toWikipedia

"Since announcing its intent to comply with Internet censorship laws in the People's Republic of China, Google China has been the focus of controversy over what critics view as capitulation to the "Golden Shield Project". Because of its self imposed censorship, whenever people search some Chinese government listed keywords, (those keywords are confidential), google.cn will list the following at the bottom of the page:"According to the local laws, regulations and policies, part of the searching result is not shown."...A PBS analysis reported clear differences between results returned for controversial keywords by the censored and uncensored search engines[6]. According to New York Times, Google has set up computer systems inside China that try to access Web sites outside the country. If a site is inaccessible (e.g., due to the Great Firewall), then it is added to Google China's blacklist.[7]"

I'm preparing myself for that eventuality. I already know that "tenminnut" means that I need to come back for my order. I also understand that "gai" or as "Wayne's World" would pronounce "guy", as in 'cream of sum yung gai" means chicken. Embrace diversity.

This is the Commie equivalent to the "series of tubes" comments, or possibly Senator Orrin Hatch has found his soulmate.

No man made system can control 200 million human brains connected to a network... even if the network is encapsulated.

Hu, a strait-laced communist with little sympathy for cultural relaxation, did not directly mention censorship.

Hey, when you have a billion served, what's a few million lopped off here and there? The DUmmies and the Democrat party would even support something like this along egalitarian lines. In a twisted way of course.

Announcements by dim-witted bureaucrats about their plans for the Internet always make me giggle. The notion that a bunch of Chinese commie busybodies (or UN busybodies, in previous editions of this brand of silliness) are going to outsmart the global legions of pimply-faced kiddie-hackers operating out of their parents' basements is patently preposterous.

It'll be fun to watch if the Chinese really try this, but the outcome is a foregone conclusion. The script-kiddies are plenty impressive when they're just doing this stuff for kicks. When they're provoked into a serious mission they'll be awesome -- the commie-crats will be lucky if their OWN computer systems are still operational after the kiddies get done with this "purification" nonsense.

This must mean they have stolen every good idea they can from the internet and now they worry about what their citizens are looking at.......
