The FReeper Canteen: Fun With Poetry. Good Morning Troops,Veterans,Allies and Canteeners.
Today we would like to hear about your favorite poem,Haiku or limerick and poet. Here are some poems I really like.
This is My Country © By Curtis J. Garrette
This is my county that I am prepared to defend with my life. I want to make this country a safer place for my children and my wife. This is my country and on this soil, you have taken the lives of innocent children, women and men. I fear not for my life, but freedom, liberty and justice I will proudly defend. This is a great country that God has blessed down through the years. We may be slightly scared and hurt, but faith will dry away our tears. Standing tall and proud, if we must sacrifice for our freedoms than for this country let us give. This is the home of the free and the brave and this is where we live. Curtis J. Garrette Captain, MP HHD, Commander Baghdad, Iraq
A Veteran's Spouse © By Jeanne M. Gallagher
A Veteran's spouse is a gem so rare, A patriot true, none can compare.
She keeps the fires burning at home While her brave soldier the world does roam. The pride she shows, the fear she keeps, And allows only darkness to see tears she weeps. Who can count the many careers She has given up throughout the years To follow her soldier from station to station So he could serve this free and great nation? She receives no ribbons, no medals gold, For she has pledged to have and to hold Her husband, her soldier, her hero strong, As he stands ready to right the wrong. So, let us honor her as a patriot true For she also serves the Red, White, and Blue.
Parents © By Robert L. Watford Jr.
Parents are like the Twin Towers. Standing there proud and tall. For the whole world to see. And to protect us from all.
They will always be there. To stand by our side. They will always love us. No matter what we decide. They are strong and weak. They are happy and sad. They will shed a tear. Whenever we are bad. Whenever we are in trouble. They are our shining light. Just like a bright star. That guides us through the night. When we are down and out. And in need of a friend. They will be our helping hand. Staying with us to the end. But when they are gone. They can never be replaced. But no matter how long it's been. I will never forget their face. Author Robert L Watford Jr. Wrote Nov. 20 2001
So please come and join us and tell us about the poems and poets you like.!!!!

For My Friend
by Carol Miller
across the miles
you touched my life,
opened my eyes, and
filled my empty heart-
strangers, yet friends,
our spirits reach out,
always touching, never apart- -
you in the east,
me in the west,
never together,
never apart- -

My Jonathan Seagull
by Wisp
My dear friend....
You came into my life so unexpectedly..
Little did I know what was to lie ahead
For the longest time you were a click of a mouse, words on my screen
Hugs that warmed my days.. and secured my nights
Within the many hours of our private room,
You showed me strength, when I showed you my weaknesses.
You taught me the importance of believing in myself,
When I thought there was nothing to believe in
You taught me so much, in ways I never knew
You stood behind me when I began to fall.
Along side of me when I needed a friend
In front of me when I needed a guide
You showed me my ability to fly...
How to reach places I had only dreamed of
You saw me with your heart and not your eyes
But more importantly you gave me a piece of you
A gift worth far more than money could buy.
You gave me a floor to dance on..
A song in my heart that I finally understand the words to
And a peacefulness in my heart...where you will live forever..
I hope everyone finds a "YOU"

Saving Ourselves
READ:
1 Corinthians 15:12-20If we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. 2 Timothy 2:11
Inside, music was playing. Outside, leaves were falling. Catching a gust of wind, one of the last leaves of autumn blew briefly upward as I heard the phrase, He is risen! By the end of the song, however, the leaf had reached the ground. Gravity had overcome the breeze.
Later, I overheard three middle-aged women discussing diets, exercise, face-lifts, and other age-defying efforts. Like the leaf, they were trying to keep gravity from pulling them toward the inevitable.
Their conversation reminds me of the good works people do to try to save themselves from spiritual death. But just as leaves cannot keep from falling and people cannot keep from aging, no one can work hard enough to avoid the consequences of sin, which is death (Rom. 6:23).
At the crucifixion, mockers challenged Jesus to save Himself. Instead, He put His life into the hands of God, and God gave back to Him not only His own life but ours as well. To receive salvation, we too must simply put our lives into the hands of God, for if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us, He will give life to us as well (Rom. 8:11).
The forces of sin outside cannot defeat the life of Christ inside.
Thank You, Jesus, for Your willingness
to surrender to Your Fathers will.
For if You had chosen to save Yourself,
You could not have saved me. Amen.
Salvation isnt turning over a new leaf; its receiving a new life.

Thank you for this evenings thread Noosie. I think you have a little poet on your hands!
To: Mrs.Nooseman
meaning, placement, sound and sight,
eye appeal and heart's delight,
dancing letters come to play,
round the globe and here to stay.
nuance, shape, alliteration,
assonance and concentration,
thoughts may scurry if you turn on the light,
but don't let them frighten you in the night....
