My Partner here at work did the same thing with raccoons, he's caught and released (5 miles away, by the napa river) about 15 in the last year. They kept getting in his garage and eating the dog and cat food.

The 17 HMR is a great new caliber. It has the very light recoil of a 22 LR and the accuracy of a center fire caliber. The light recoil allows one to watch where the bullets impact through the scope even at power levels of 18X or more.

My first choice would be the Thompson/Center Contender in 17 HMR.

My second choice would be the CZ Varmint in 17 HMR. It is a very well made rifle and quite accurate.

I see Coyotes every day! I had tow in my yard this morning. I am glad to see them -- they eat the rabbits. Our rabbit population exploded about a year ago, and since then the Coyotes arrived.

That's stupid. Coyotes don't go after anything taller than they are.

Wrong. They'll take any dog you send after them. They even bait them with one coyote who leads the dog back to the pack. They turn the dog, nip the heel tendons, and down it goes.

Thanks for that information. I know it is nature but it is sad just the same. We saw one walking across a field with a cat in its mouth. Hope the cat was dead.

It seems to me that a peace deal could be brokered with the coyotes. The cougars and bears would surely help, as they surely want stability in the region. I don't see why we can't all just get along.

Alternately, if you blow a coyote in half with a shotgun other coyotes can smell his blood from way off and they tend to stay away.
