Having previously reported on the participation of Revolutionary Communist Party members at the "National Conference on Media Reform," I can now confirm that members of the old Soviet-line Communist Party USA were there, too. ...In a message to supporters of the People's Weekly World (PWW), the CPUSA paper, editor Teresa Albano reports that she attended the event along with two St. Louis PWW bureau members. "Over 3,000 people attended¯all concerned about the state of democracy in this country now that Big Media Conglomerates control most of the political debate, culture and stories that Americans see, hear and read everyday. It's a new and blossoming movement " ...she reports, "Many conference speakers celebrated the defeat of the Bush administration in the November elections. All stayed on messagetargeting the big corporate and right-wing interests that have taken over the news and other sources of information. Speakers also blasted the commercial media's role in the run-up to the Iraq invasion."
"With a new Congress, ...the conference touched on legislative possibilities for media reform. Rep. [Maurice] Hinchey said legislation governing media reform is possible in this session of Congress, but only with continued public pressure. Hinchey sponsored the Media Ownership Reform Act, a bill that would rein in media monopolies and reinstate the Fairness Doctrine that requires broadcasters to present issues in an all-sided manner. That kind of equal access, he said, was 'wiped out' in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan."
As I previously reported, the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) was at the conference, maintaining a booth and passing out literature about its leader, Bob Avakian, who thinks the current leadership in Communist China has sold out to the capitalist West. The RCP is regarded as the largest Maoist party in the U.S., and Mao is considered the greatest mass murderer in history.

There it is. Another step towards stalinist control of thought, speech, and opinion.
Media Reform, eh? I guess a major part of this is the move to strip the credentials of any meteorologist who doesn't toe the party line on man-caused global warming.
Leftists' "control" of the media is somewhat akin to owning the deck chairs, on the Titanic.
The old left media is extinct.
They just haven't fallen over yet, is all.
mark
Big Media reported "Communism is Dead!" But they always lie.
The Communists found that they couldn't get elected as dogcatcher if they called themselves "Communists".
So now they call themselves "Democrats".
"As I previously reported, the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) was at the conference, maintaining a booth and passing out literature about its leader, Bob Avakian, who thinks the current leadership in Communist China has sold out to the capitalist West."
Mr. Avakian is just blind the fact
(or wants his sheeple to be blind to the fact)
that
(because of the inherent makeup of human nature)
the totalitarian impulse,
no matter what its philosophical source
always will live-out the truth that
power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely;
demonstrating the philosophical family relationship
of both Nazis and Communists;
which reflects how, and why, the Maoists have
created a state which,
like the Nazis,
is best described, in economic terms, as state-capitalism
(a totalitarian dictatorial political monopoly with absolute economic control produced through the intersection of and interlinking of organs of the political monopoly and/or the state run by that monopoly with "business").
The "Maoists" now run China pretty much how Hitler ran Germany and like Hitler they are nationalist xenophobes who
manufacture "national pride" as the substantiation for all that they do, including the total suppression of dissent.
"Hinchey sponsored the Media Ownership Reform Act, a bill that would rein in media monopolies and reinstate the Fairness Doctrine that requires broadcasters to present issues in an all-sided manner. That kind of equal access, he said, was 'wiped out' in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan.""
Another liberal Democrat attack on free speech.

"The survival of our democratic republic depends on it."
The proposed Meaningful Expression of Democracy in America Act of 2004 (Yes, the MEDIA Act) in part says, "Since the removal of the Fairness Doctrine standard in 1987, we have seen a polarization in America due to the dissemination of false and misleading information and the growing proliferation of highly partisan news outlets."
So I ask for an example of false and misleading information. Here's one:
"Since the removal of the Fairness Doctrine standard in 1987, we have seen a polarization in America due to the dissemination of false and misleading information and the growing proliferation of highly partisan news outlets."
And for solutions?
One is to reach out to regular citizens - "We have to get our fellow citizens to understand that what they see, hear, and read is [agenda-based and distorted by nattering nabobs of know-nothing radio, et al]."
Though Mr. Moyers makes some good points about the lack of good reporting -- owing to what I'd call "bean counters" -- it is that "We have to get our fellow citizens to understand. . . ." that bothers me.
"Fairness Doctrine, 2007" is not "Fairness Doctrine, 1949". The courts noted the diversity of sources of information thirty years ago and IMO would have nullified "Fairness Doctrine, 1949". "Fairness Doctrine, 2007" has to be something different.
Nutty liberals may be mentally / emotionally ill but some of them ain't stupid. They saw Air America's failure. They know that they cannot compete -- yet, they cannot just demand replacing portions of conservative talk to speak their feeeeeeeeeelings. There has to be a Third Way approach. They're good at devious means for achieving an end. It's what they do.
No, they know that they cannot just force us off the air, but they need a way to force us to listen to their affective disorders; otherwise it's just more Air America faliures.
The "grassroots lobbyists" thing was just the beginning ditto the lawsuit in Seattle charging a radio station with illegal campaign contributions because a host spoke out against a ballot measure.
Au contraire mi amigo ( a ittle frog mex lingo) the old media is alive and kicking.
While it is true newspapers are struggling, the Associated Press is the number one news source for most people. The AP spews enough low level propaganda to influence millions.
The alphabet networks have degenetrated to propaganda primetime programming. The news departments are still the main source of TV news for most. The arrogance is overwhelming.
America has a very serious problem still.
