Loans to day laborers could be in future [Montgomery County, Maryland..again]
Gazette ^ | January 17, 2007 | Sebastian Montes

As county officials are considering where to locate the latest employment center for day laborers, the new county executive is talking about loaning money to the workers so they can open their own businesses.

Montgomery County began funding day-laborer centers as a solution for immigrant workers more than 10 years ago, and County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) believes it is time to expand the thinking. He wants to move away from relying solely on the centers to address the employment needs of a growing number of day laborers.

It's amazing that this hasn't been picked up by the networks yet.

Maybe today.

If this new county executive starts off his first term like this, where will the county be in 4 years?

If this passes, EVERY LEGAL county resident, state resident for that matter since I am sure some funds will be from the state, should sue the county for aiding and abetting criminal behavior. I will also go to apply for a loan and when turned down due to MY LEGAL STATUS, I will file a Federal suit claiming that my rights as a LEGAL CITIZEN have been violated and for RACIAL discrimination.

There's an idea. Loan money to people who don't pay income taxes and let them compete against people who do pay income taxes. Not to mention they get around paying minimum wage.

Brilliant!!

"Yes but most of his workers are convicted child molesters and they are illegal to boot. They will be in the house with your children"
"You must not have heard me. I said HALF"

Seems the county government is putting the squeeze on the business owners that employ illegal immigrants by enabling them to directly compete with them...a novel idea, IMO.

One week, Roberto is standing in the rain with six others...anxiously awaiting the van to pull up with an offer of work.

Next week, Roberto pulls up with his own truck...fills the van with his buddies...and flips the bird to the guy that gave him work.

Former Governor Robert Erhlich, a republican, turned a $3 BILLION deficit into a $3.5 BILLION surplus...in one term.

He lost to O'Malley...Baltimore mayor this past November.

The Democratic Progressives have total control over all branches of government in Maryland. And we all know what they say about 'absolute power'.

No, you had it right the first time. Don't forget New Orleans and their $2000 checks to do with as they please and Arnie who's giving the citrus workers unemployment.

I'm still in a state of shock about Ehrlich. Here comes the tax increases! I'm looking at a home in South Carolina for retirement. This place is a liberal cesspool. Once a liberal gets elected here they stay on like the pope!

Two of my good friends and their families have moved to Sunset Beach, N C from Merryland. It's right on the N C/S C border.

They love it...and much cheaper than here.
