There are many coin collecting Freepers and even non-collectors that may be interested in collecting these coins. As was the case with the state quarters, they will be minted at Philadelphia and Denver and carry the P and D mint marks. Those of us on the east coast never see D mint marks and those on the west never see the P mintmarks. I was wondering if any FReepers would be interested in formin a network to trade P and D mintmarked coins to help us all get complete sets?

If interested, please post below and indicate what Mint Marks you can provide. For this to work, its got to be straight up even trades, with each side paying their own postage so thate everyone is equal.

I can provide "P" mintmarks.

Thanks

Are the new coins going to the old size coins or those type that are about the size of a two bit coin?

Question: do you know what the content of the coin is? If it's silver, how much silver? Or if it's gold, how much gold?

The new dollars are the same size and material as the Sacagawea Dollars. Keep in mind, the law requires that 1/3 of the toal dollar production in each year of the program be of the Sacagewea dollars, so mintages of the presidential coins will be low and the Sacs will be very low. I intend to pick up bank rolls of the Presidential dollars and the Sacs and think that others should too.

I'll provide my address. Please send any dollar coins you may come across, preferably in packages of 1,000 or more at a time.

In the mean time, why are so few recently released state quarters "missing" in action?

Seems very, very few of the latest group can be found.

Very funny. Hey, I'm being serious here about setting up a network for FReepers to exchange the coins so that they can make complete sets. I understand the need to crack jokes, I've done it too. I'm hoping that this won't tun into a free-for-all with nothing but wisecracks... I have a feeling, though, that it will.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm an amateur numismatist myself. I travel west on occasion so getting hold of "D" coins isn't too hard for me. My main interest is in late Roman/Byzantine coinage, though.

You can go to the US Mint and order rolls (or bags) from both mints.

Yes, but for many folks who are just putting together a set for their kid(s), its not worth it. What I want to try to set up is a network where an eastcoaster can trade one coin with a westcoaster for all of the cost of a stamp.

God....I wish.....they would stop......SCREWING with the money.

Changing the appearance of our money is the least of our problems. Our inherently worthless greenbacks have nothing backing them up except our ephemeral trust in the government -- how does that strike you? I wish the government would stop screwing with our rights and freedom! Call it the inflation of Liberty -- soon we'll have none.

The public overwhelmingly supports the paper one dollar bill. The politicians, as usual, aren't listening.

No silver nor gold content. The only value then would be collecting and holding for about 50 years or better.

Yawn.... how many times are they going to come up with a "new" dollar coin? Can't they take the hint it's NOT working? I hope these aren't quarter-sized "dollars" AGAIN, because you think the government would finally figure out nobody wants to put their hand in their pocket and mistakely pay $1.00 for every 25 cents. And no, the gold color doesn't improve things, it just makes them look like Chuck E. Cheese Tokens. They haven't had a decent dollar coin since the Einsenhower dollar

As usual, people will keep this coins as collectables but not use them in general circulation. The only plus I'm getting out of the deal is I can finally have greats like Ronald Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt on "official" U.S. currency. On the negative, we're going to have a bunch of useless coins like Millard Fillmore dollars, and a bunch of coins showcasing Presidents who are already on pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters.

Man I wish Bush would appoint someone innovative at the U.S. treasury and the mint. We need a practical system. Presidents go on paper money -- other historic figures (hopefully big names like Thomas Edison and John Calhoun instead of politically correct figures like "Sacajawea" would go on coins. Each denomination would have a fixed historic person on and easy to identify from looking at the potrait. Washington, for instance, would be only on $1 paper bills, not on quarters or any other denomination. Coins would all come in different sizes, with different people on each. Half-dollars and Full dollar coins would be larger sizes than regular coins, and thus easy to spot at a moment's notice. Paper money would be switched to Polymer-based like aussie money, and would go back to classy, detailed 19th century type artwork instead of the "monopoly money" look they introduced a decade ago with plain boring borders and BIG cartoony portaits.

Never send the federal government to do a regular job. Really, a 12 year old could figure this stuff out.

$10 = FRONT: Truman, BACK: U.S. treasury
$20= FRONT: Jackson, BACK: White House
$50 = FRONT: Teddy Roosevelt, BACK: U.S. Capitol
$100 = FRONT: Reagan, BACK: Independence hall
$500 = FRONT: McKinley, BACK: Columbus lands in new world, embarkation of the pilgrams
$1,000 = FRONT: Madison, BACK: revolutionary war, signing of the constitution
$5,000 = FRONT: Cleveland, BACK: ft. Sumter fired on, acquisition of Guam & Philippines
$10,000 = FRONT: FDR, BACK: stock market crash (Prohibition & depression), A-bomb dropped
$100,000 = FRONT: Wilson ,BACK: moon landing, Berlin wall falls

COINS
1c FRONT: Douglas MacArthur BACK: Liberty Bell
5c FRONT: John Calhoun BACK: Gateway Arch
10c FRONT: Henry Clay BACK: Golden Gate Bridge
25c FRONT: Daniel Webster BACK: Grand Canyon
50c FRONT: Benjamin Franklin BACK: Mt. Rushmore

It is simple, innit? Also simple is that there is no need for pennies, nickels or dimes. Stop making them.
