" Although previously in favor of free trade, he has more recently become skeptical of it."

The auther of the blog post is a little confused here. Ron Paul has always been and remains in favor of genuine Free Trade. He has also always been and still is sceptical of globally managed trade, ala NAFTA, WTO etc., masking itself as Free Trade. This is a distinction that needs to be made more often.

'There is an unconfirmed rumor around the net that he will tap Tom Tancredo to be his running mate.

Some conservatives say this could be the "dream team."'

That would be an interesting pair.

"...and he perhaps has one of the largest grassroots followings of any U.S. Representative."

He is quite popular among the small "l" libertarians as well as the big "L" ones. He also has the support of a large number of constitutionalists and paleoconservatives. Although I have my doubts as to whether he could actually win, I wiould love to see him in the debates. The best case scenario is that a Ron Paul candidacy creates a grass roots movement to reconnect conservatism to its limited government roots ala Barry Goldwater.

I'll be happy if ANY conservatives jump into the 2008 race.

To actual conservatives they would be known as the "in your dreams" team.

Forget Tancredo, he should add Newt. They would be an awesome pair!

He will be as popular as in the GOP primaries as Kucinich was in the Dems.

He is for freeing gay marriage, no federal protection for the unborn, legalized recreational drugs etc. He has abandonded the troops and the president too many times for me. I have lost faith in Ron Paul but it's no worry because he won't win.

Paul will not run.

My guess is he will raise a slew of cash through his "exploratory committee" and use it to fund some sort of PAC, start a new party, or promote the Libertarian Party.

Be very careful what you wish for regarding Ron Paul and Barry Goldwater. The states Barry Goldwater carried in the 1964 election are shown below in blue. In my opinion, Ron Paul would win fewer states in 2008 than Goldwater did in 1964 (6 states, 52 electoral votes).

I love Ron Paul and he is my Congress Critter, but I wish hw would forget this idea. The only thing he will accomplish is the loss of his Congressional seat to a "plain vanilla" Republican.
We need his voice in Congress.

Do I really want to back a guy being touted by kooks like Alex Jones and Jeff Rense?
