They are just days from having to turn themselves in to federal authorities.

Two border patrol agents have been convicted of shooting a drug smuggler in Texas, so why are the agents going to jail?

Former El Paso border patrol agent Ignacio Ramos is just days away from having to turn himself in to federal authorities to begin serving an 11-year prison sentence.

This travesty and the Haditha trial are liable to run the Republican party completely out of Washington in 2008. I could expect these kinds of things to happen under a Democrat Administration, but when an administration I voted for does it, I feel betrayed.

I'm still not ready to vote for a Democrat, but staying home on election day is beginning to look like a possibility. I'd rather cuss a Democrat in office than cuss myself for voting for someone who is not a bit different than a Democrat.

The saddest pictures in this are the ones of conservatives holding up "Impeach Bush" and "Hang Bush" signs. These are the same people, along with you and me, that voted him into office and trusted him with this honorable position.

Excellent post, excellent pics! This is an absolute disgrace of Bush and the GOP - to attempt to claim they're taking national security seriously 5+ years after 9-11.

The emperor has no clothes.

Another Day in the Life Pres Bush... He'll stay the course until these guys are in jail, then admit mistakes were made. I think I have his cadence.

One of the posters on this thread expresses a feeling of being betrayed.... that was the message sent to the WH last November. The problem was not the IRAQ war, the Bush Admin made that the focal point rather than deal with the Border and illegal immigrants.

With the loss of both houses, even though the balance is slight, the Dems were able to make the Iraq War the major concern. Had Bush dealt with the illegals problem, Conservatives, such as many of us, would have gone to the polls or voted a straight ticket. We did not. I know many that split the ticket or didn't show. WAKE UP BUSH and pardon these guys and seal the border. (Remember GWB your legacy will not be that you were a great President, but that you were a better alternative! Try to improve over the next two years)

Understand that there may be more to the story. The protesters should know be now that Bush doesn`t respond to threats. Interesting that their supporters want pardons, not new trials.

This is so sad......These men do not deserve to go to jail. The fact Pres Bush did not pardon them is a big mistake. How is our border patrol supposed to do their jobs if they risk going to jail? I understand there were mistakes made in this case but to let a drug dealer get off and put two of our border guards in jail ....its sickening. It is making many Americans angry and disgusted.

Wouldn`t you want a new trial if you were innocent of the charges, but, if not, wouldn`t you then want a pardon? There is more to this story I`ll bet, after all a jury said they were guilty. Personally, they should have been charged with being poor shots.

A new trial with a jury of potential ILLEGAL immigrant sympathizers is useless - much like judges letting child molesters out on bail to molest again. Regardless of a minor failure to follow bureacratic policies and procedures, these agents were doing their job to protect the country.

More than can be said of Bush on the issue of border security/ILLEGAL immigration.
