The only person I can trust with my guns is myself. Definitely not any politicians.

A big ole 10-04 on that!

What cesspools...both D.C. and New Orleans!

I imagine the Demoratic plan is to turn the cities over to the thugs and then cut and run.

You mean like Hillary, Giuliani, or Romney? Yikes! The only somewhat reasonable guy on this issue is McCain- and its not uncommon for him to side with the libs on a few RKBA things.

That is what I mean! Since McCain is my Senator, and I have been watching him closely for many years, I am going to disagree with you on his gun stance, can you say gun grabber lite. As you said, that is subject to change for the worse if it suits his purpose.

but the MSM will ignore the credible studies and use this flawed operational definition study.

Just like they STiLL use that book with the 100% fraudlent and made up history of the revolutionary era USA.

this are pure bread leftists who hate individualism.

They support fake but accurate as a way of accademic legitimacy if the goal is leftist.

Obama was on the board before he ran for Senator.

After doing more Googling, I found out that the author of this study does work at the Harvard School of Public Health, but in the Firearms Research Center, funded by the Joyce Foundation! Not exactly an unbiased scientific study...

American states where more people own guns have higher murder rates, including murders of children, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health reported on Thursday.

Well, where's their study showing states with more; African Americans, Hispanics, poverty, illegal immigrants, high school dropouts and pit bulls have higher murder rates?

Look up the demographic the New England states don't have.

(Hint: it's the one that commits 60% of felony murders year in and year out.)

This is your baseline.

Now look up the demographic that states with large rural populations who hunt and lots of diversity to defend yourself from do have.

(Hint: It's the same one as before.)

The second states have more crime you say?

Shocking! It must be the guns.

"Not a very good way to do this kind of analysis. Different areas in different states have huge differences in homicide rates and gun ownership."

They did a great job. Their product is head candy intended for the bliss ninnies. You don't think they'd actually be honest and out to tell the truth do you?

"A more precise way is to look at it county by county. They will find more guns equal less crime."

That's already been shown. They're not out to corroborate that and it's a fact that they don't have an honest bone in there body. They're out to demonize gun owners as mean vicious people with a propensity for crime, violence and murder. Their product was designed to show that gunowners are just that.

including murders of children

Are those children gangbangers under 21 or 18?

Study of course also does not take into account the rate of gang on gang murders (think it accounted for something like 75% of murders) where both the victim and shooter were bad guys anyways.

Also the "study" didn't mention if they looked at all the murders or just gun murders. My bet is they looked at all murders and not only gun murders.

Also I've seen previous studies like this where legitimate fatal shootings, even by law enforcement, were counted as 'homicides'. Don't know if that is the case here or not.

Study says CDC statistics which means under 21.

A quick internet search brought up another study from the Joyce Foundation that said the majority of gun owners were white middle-class and middle-aged men. Another study from the Brady Group says that black gun deaths are 2.6 times the white gun deaths.

And I'm pretty sure if we had bands of paunchy -slightly balding pasty white guys roaming the countryside in search of their next victim we would have heard about it by now.

"In states with the most guns, firearm homicide rates were 114 percent higher, the researchers reported in the February issue of Social Science and Medicine."

They have just used a fancy way of stating a truism to advance a political agenda. No mention of total murder rates. Just the fact that if you have more guns, you have more murders with guns. *Not more murders. More murders with guns.* It is like stating that if you have more cars, you have more murders with cars.

Of course if you have no cars, you have no murders with cars.

But, that is all irrelevant. It doesn't matter to a person how they are murdered. What matters is if they are murdered at all.

And that is what this study pointedly ignores.

"After dividing the states into four groups based on how many households had guns, the researchers found the states in the highest quartile of firearm ownership had overall homicide rates 60 percent higher than states in the lowest quartile."

I flat out do not believe this. It contradicts all the other studies that I have seen on this issue. I would like to see their data. I notice that they are using "surveys". I wonder if they are from doctors asking if there are guns in the house.

"Our findings suggest that in the United States, household firearms may be an important source of guns used to kill children, women and men, both on the street and in their homes," said Matthew Miller, assistant professor of health policy and injury prevention, who led the study."

An assistant professor? I hope no one gives him tenure. Where else does he think the firearms come from? Treetops? Are there treetop firearms, like in money trees?

Health policy and injury prevention? Where is the concern and focus on causal connection? Does he think the guns are motivators and cause the killings? Mindless crap!

"I flat out do not believe this. It contradicts all the other studies that I have seen on this issue."

They divided the States into 4 groups according to the number of households that had guns. That means states that contain places like NO, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Philly, Miami, LA, ect are going to look bad. The criminals have to live somewhere and they wouldn't fair well in other places.

In states with higher populations, there will be more guns and more homicides. Would Harvard be so dishonest? Political correctness has changed all the rules. It's the mentality that if there's an ultimate 'truth', it's okay to skew the evidence to support it. I don't know if we can credit this phenomenon to Dan Rather or not.

Check out DC: 35.4 per 100K, nobody else is even close

New Orleans will surpass in the next round.

This report, like those befoe, will fall on its face when the details are investigated and refereed by someone independent of their movement.

Unfortunately that time lag will allow their movement to make it an urban myth like the 43 times more likely number.
