Dang it...

Best pic I've got on this machine. So much for trying to use a Google image search for a quickie graphic...

Sports "commentators", Tony Kornhole among them, are some of the least intelligent and most useless people in our nation. Also, they are often flaming liberals, ie. Keith Olbermann and the ranks of those who completely stretched, twisted and distorted what Limbaugh said about McNabb. Why anyone gives them a minute of their precious time is beyond me.

If there were any justice in this nation, we would be allowed to round up all sports commentators, 75% of professional "atheletes", along with 99.99999% of movie stars and all rappers, force them into extremely leaky boats, coat them with chum, and set them adrift in the Straits of Florida during shark migration season. Whoever made it back to shore would be shot with "assault weapons" and .50 BMG rifles as they dragged themselves from the water. JMNSHO.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

How many "Blue Dog" Democrats did the NRA support in the past election cycle?

I know they supported Senator Ben Nelson.

I wonder if the minute men at concord were considered "red coat killers"

I suppose the Tories might have thought of them as such.

I just searched Davidson's Gallery of Guns for a .223 rifle in the $200 - $300 range. They have an single shot H&R Handi rifle for $266. Add a simple scope for $40 and you still have sufficient money for about 500 rds of ammo inside the $350 budget.

We'd all better learn how to make IEDs then.

Oh, I thought this was a defensive weapon thread not a squirrel hunting thread.

One hopes it doesn't come to that, but the classic ambush, disengage and depart along with IEDs are what they gun control advocated are buying - willingly. They aren't dumb - they're exceedingly evil, but not dumb. They're banking that their militarized police, and their military will be able to gain the upper hand, killing or jailing all people who take the 2nd amendment's true meaning seriously enough to actually take action when the confiscations start.

Look at the universal condemnation faced by McVeigh. Exactly the same sentiment will be blasted out by the media if and when anyone seriously resists government. Cop killers, terrorists, murderers will be the cry if anyone resists with force.

I think its a "buy one while you can" thread. Nazi Pelosi and the gun grabbers are anxious to get started on their agenda.

I was just looking for something "useful" within the budgetary range you cited. The U.S. military seems reasonably happy with .223. It's certain common as dirt for ammo supplies.

True enough. I think they will be coming after the 590's and 870's. Cops use them, so we shouldn't be able to, ya' know. My 590 has a folding pistol grip stock and a mount for a light. It looks really evil. Sometimes, I get scared just being in the same room as it. :)

Not even Rebecca Peters wants to ban single shot 22's. IMO, the things to be on the lookout for would be hi-cap magazine bans, pistol grip bans, and center fire ammo bans. A LEO at the range told me his is concerned about them banning the importation of ammo, which would really blow chunks for us AK owners.

I don't see the next evolution of military rifles continuing to be chambered in 223. I personally think we should switch to 7.69X39 so we can use the enemy's ammo.

McVeigh though killed a lot of non-FBI. I think a movement of more pure self defense directed at ATF and SWAT would be viewed differently by most Americans. The media would have a hard time turning the average law abiding gun owner into a David Koresh or Randy Weaver. If they can't turn you into a pervert, religious zealot or racist (which Koresh and Weaver made easy, IMO), they will have trouble garnering broad sympathy for the police. I'm not saying I don't think the gun control nuts won't ever try it, but I think it likely they have accepted a longer term plan based around chipping away little by little at our rights, combined with a comprehensive anti-gun pro-nanny state indoctrination though the public schools.

P.S. Please don't interpret my Koresh/Weaver comments as validating what the government did to them. They should have been free to pursue their lives without interference and entrapment so long as they posed no threat to general society.

6.8SPC seems to be a favorite next gen caliber. The brass is shortened so the cartridge fits in a standard AR-15/M16 magazine. Swap the upper to a 6.8SPC barrel. Voila. The rest of the rifle stays the same, but has better knockdown than the .223. No retraining. New jags and brushes. Big deal.

Cry me a river. The NRA has been endorsing Democrats for forever. Tell them to get back to me when they drop this egregious practice.

Til then, I'll support GOA. ("The only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington." - Rep. Ron Paul)

Agreed. I belong to the NRA because I think they do a good job protecting the 2nd Amendment. As more people join the NRA, the clearer it will be to Democrats and other leftists that the people will not stand by and allow our right to bear arms to be infringed.

Got that covered too. US Army and NRA trained, parentally reenforced. My father is USMC and NRA trained and also prentally reenforced. I believe that goes back several generations.

A firearm is little more than a fancy hammer unless you are willing to use it for its designed purpose.

Nice shotgun. I have an 1100 with "turktical" sights. Works great.

Mayor Daley on the radio today calling for common sense gun control in Illinois. (when was he elected gov?)

I was surprised at how accurate my "turktical" is with a rifled slug. I can put together a 4 inch group at 200 feet with rifled slugs in the thing.

I have a feeling I could do an 8 inch group at 100 yards, although I haven't tried yet.

That pump has become my favorate go to gun.

With the thing holding 8 rounds, I figure I could pretty well demolish an automobile with it loaded with 2 rifled slugs and 6 rounds of 00 Buck in standard shells. I haven't tried that yet either, but its nice to vizualize! ( two slugs in the engine , and then an OO buck walk around.) Grin!

Does your 1100 kick much? I have to hold the Benelli in tight, the old shoulder can take a beating with rapid successive fire. The have these compensator gee gaws to put in the stock but I am too stubborn to ante up the 200 bucks for it.

Can't you do the same thing with the 7.63X39? Why are they so adamantly opposed to the 30 Caliber round? Does the 6.8 at least get over the 100 grain threshold?

6.8SPC is offered is 110 gr and 115 gr. COL is 2.26". The 7.62x39 is not a 30 caliber round. It is .311. You have to be careful because foreign ammo is .311. American offerings in 7.62x39 e.g. T/C Encore barrel is .308. You have to shop for 7.62x39 ammo that is .308 from an American manufacturer to shoot the T/C Encore barrel safely.

The COL for 7.62x39 is 2.2. It would fit in an AR-15 length magazine. The rounds would likely be more staggered and the magazine would hold fewer rounds as a consequence. The buffer spring might not play without a change. In the case of 6.8mm SPC, the buffer spring remains unchanged.
