Experts on stand-by for Black Tuesday By Amy Iggulden and David Millward
Last Updated: 2:25am GMT 02/01/2007

New Year hangovers have faded and the last of the Christmas turkey has been dispatched. But the true cost of this year's festive battle has yet to be counted. And the reckoning begins today — "Black Tuesday".

As Britain returns to work after a fortnight of excess and enforced intimacy, armies of bank managers, divorce lawyers, debt counsellors, addiction experts, life coaches and car mechanics are braced to deal with the fall-out.

Citizens' Advice Bureaux will receive the first of at least 1.4 million inquiries this year from people now facing an "unmanageable" debt burden. They are likely to receive more than 5,300 calls today alone.

Divorce lawyers are predicting a flurry of inquiries today as couples who struggled over Christmas finally resolve to take legal advice about separation.

Serious requests for help from the charity Alcoholics Anonymous UK will also start to grow, doubling in London to more than 20 a day by the end of the week.

WeightWatchers' New Year subscriptions will start to flood in as some of last year's slimmers depart to make way for a million new and returning hopefuls. The RAC and AA are braced for their busiest day of the year as commuters get back in their cars.

Gladeana McMahon, the vice-president of the Association for Coaching, one of many life-coaching organisations, said: "Over Christmas people put away their problems, even blank them out. So when Jan 2 comes around and we start back at work, they just can't be ignored any longer and can seem much worse."

Life coaches? Some people just take their winter festival holiday way too seriously.

There's hardly anyone here who wouldn't qualify as a "life coach" - we mostly recommend commonsensical remedies to life's booboos to each other and the world at large.

The difference is, they manage to get someone to PAY them to do it.

Well, of course, that depends on you and what you would like to truly accomplish.

The name sounds like touchy, feely new-age bs. I am an AF NCO. Here is the "life-coaching" I give my troops;

Don't piss me off or lie to me. Do what is right and stand up and admit when you screw up. Everyone makes mistakes, learn from them. If you don't know what to do, ask. I'll tell you WHERE YOU can find the answer. If necessary I'll walk you through it once or twice. Oh, one more thing; try to keep your head out of your @$$!

Wow, not only did you switch the quotes, you missed my subtle attempt at wry humor, which also answered your question.

That said, I'm with you on the "touchy feely" crap.

Because the government regulates just about everything including counseling, psychologists and social workers...They can become life coaches and not have to deal with the regulations.

This is what a life coach does

I don't understand why people here are so judgemental. If this makes your life a little better..so what? People pay therapists...they do many things to enhance the quality of their lives. I don't knock anything that works which is of a positive nature.

I fully agree. On this other thread I asked everyone to stay civil. Would you believe someone asked me "Who died and left you hall monitor?" -
