CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President George W. Bush and his wife were taken to a tornado shelter on his ranch on Friday afternoon as severe weather hit central Texas, though they did not have to enter the facility, a White House spokesman said.

In the middle of a weeklong vacation, the Bushes and their dogs were driven in an armored vehicle to a shelter on his 1,600-acre (647-hectare) ranch for a brief period as a precaution, said spokesman Scott Stanzel.

This severe weather event is still on going. At last report at least 13 tornadoes have been confirmed including at least one just a few miles from my house. I actually watched the funnel cloud pass to my East.

From north of the Red River into Southern Oklahoma to just north of Corpus Christi, Texas; the entire central part of the state is under a tornado watch. The entire area around Waco has been under tornado warning after tornado warning since just after 1:00 p.m. central time.

Was the DitchWitch still around. What a shame if she had been caught up in that. True shame. Yep, I'd be sad, real sad.

I'm in Bryan/College Station.

As for who paid for the shelter, I have no idea.

We like the rain, but need to hold back on those rotating winds.

Probably not since many (SMART) people in that area have them built when they build their homes. At least, it's not for 'security' to hand out Halloween candy like used by Hillary in Chappaque, NY.

I got 1-1/2" at my house. I had some pretty strong swirling winds and eerie light there for a few minutes.

I thought that the same weather machines that brought own Katrina could be used to give Crawford residents good weather whenever the President came to town. /s

I keep forgetting her name and calling her Cindy Crawford!!!!

Ditch Witch is much better!

Shame a tornado could not pick her up and dump her in Venezuela.

Smart people built them so far from the house, you have to be driven there in an armored car?

Noooooo.....I don't think so.

That we might build the POTUS a convenient shelter, near but not to near his house...that I can believe.

You must be new around here. Whenever a filthy whore democrat sub human dies, all we are allowed to do is say what a wonderful person he/she was. Bad politics, but WONDERFUL person. Check the posts on recently deceased filthy whores. BTW, I agree with you 100% -- she is a filthy whore and the day she dies, she'll still be a filthy whore.

President George W. Bush and his wife were taken to a tornado shelter

Am I the only one who thinks this is an oddly passive way of putting it, as if to suggest that someone tucked the President under his arm or put him in a doggie carrier?

The press pulled the same sort of language trick on 9/11, when they pictured Bush as a hapless fool being carted around by his minders.

When you're in tornado country and get a warning, you head for the shelter.

I'm watching the local news and all evidence says that College Station was visited by a tornado.

>>>Maybe someone could drop a house on her. Please!!<<<

The picture in my mind of Sheehan spinning across the Texas plain at about 600RPM in a tornado screaming "Bush did this!" is satisfying enough. Why contaminate a good house?

People don't build tornado shelters much in central Texas.

IAH and DFW are having delays. Since she's leaving Cleveland I assume she's flying on Continental Flight 2748 to DFW?
