Back when I was a kid (1970's), I used to be into Shortwave radio. I used to find and listen to these things all the time, they gave me the creeps, it was cool! At the time, I thought they were secret coded messages, but almost in jest. Later found out that I was right. Kewl man!

My dad was a HAM radio operator, and he used to let me into the shack when I was a boy in the '70s to listen to this sort of thing...and other stuff. We listened to a lot of Soviet surface fleet and air defence chatter. I vividly recall the eerie rachet sound of the "Russian Woodpecker" ICBM radar.
I think I actually miss the Cold War some days.
