Terror case lingers 3 years

Three years after Mohammed Warsame was arrested in Minneapolis and jailed for alleged ties to Al-Qaida and lying to FBI agents, a defense attorney is calling the case a "travesty" and has filed a brief in U.S. District Court demanding charges be dismissed because of delays in the case. "The wheels of justice have not ground slowly in this case," wrote Chicago lawyer David C. Thomas in the brief filed Wednesday. "Instead they have ground to a halt."

Warsame, 33, a Canadian of Somali descent, remains among a handful of people arrested in Minnesota since 2001 in connection with terrorism allegations.

Warsame was a student at Minneapolis Community College when he was arrested on Dec. 9, 2003. He remains in solitary confinement at the Oak Park Heights prison.

Among the allegations against Warsame are that he lied to federal agents about going to Afghanistan and sent $2,000 to an associate whom he met at a training camp there. He is accused of providing material support to Al-Qaida and conspiring to support the terrorist network. The defense has said Warsame went to training camps because he was out of money and needed shelter. The defense said that the money was lent to Warsame to get back to North America and that he was repaying it.

Training? Training for what?.../s

Yeah, a 30-year-old "Canadian of Somali descent" who is a student at Minneapolis Community College.
Okay.
He can remain in solitary confinement at the Oak Park Heights prison until he's dead as far as I'm concerned.

Well, it's The Strib. On the other hand, the government seems to be saying that it hasn't brought the case to trial because it hasn't yet assembled the evidence. It used to be 'evidence before charges' and I do have to wonder if we're not seeing some nifonging here.
