Here in Washington DC the media is quick to point out that there is no constitutional provision for the removal of a senator in the case of his or her inability to serve. On the way in this morning I heard stories of senators who were unable to speak, were seriously ill, or otherwise incapacitated, and they still held their seats.
I hope the senator recovers, and my prayers for his family, but I doubt that, unless he actually dies, the Democrats will never declare his seat vacant.
