The reason for global warming (as well as global cooling) is the potential of multi-billion dollar grants from the US government to do nothing more than just wait for the sun cycle to come around.

Reminds me of a guy who persuaded a king to finance teaching donkey to speak on guarantee of success in 25 years. Asked about unavoidable king's wrath after then, he expressed no worry - in 25 years either me, or king or donkey will be dead.

When I was young, in the '70's, we were told to prepare for global cooling and a new ice age. In the '90's, we were told there was a new menace: global warming. The experts of prior years flipped and became prophets with a new story to sell.

Their Ph.D's mean squat to me. They've proved to be incompetent and alarmist on issues where no one has proven beyond doubt the validity of their claims.

Follow the money, Govt Grants go to both sides of the pendulum, first it was Ice Age now it is Warming, 20 years from now it will be the Magnetic Poles or that the Moon is in danger of leaving our orbit.

It is all BS, we have as little to do with Climate as a butterfly flapping it's wings which starts a small vortex that grows to a breeze which ends up being Hurricane Katrina that displaces thousands of third and fourth generation Welfare recipients... George Bush should have seen it coming and killed that damned butterfly.

I would rather see it the way Ronald Reagan viewed the Cold War, when asked about his plan he simply stated "WE WIN, THEY LOSE"

Same plan should apply here, we just need our spineless so called leaders to be replaced or emboldened so that we counter the ignorant AlGores of the World. Problem is there are very few Men or Women made of the same cloth that Rumsfeild, Cheney or Bolton are made of.

Rising sea levels ! What about the incredible rise that occurred long before man had even invented the wheel. When our ancestors left Africa 50,000 years ago, the earth was in an Ice Age and sea levels were 40 building stories lower then now. The ancestors of the American Indians walked into Alaska from Siberia. The Baltic Sea was a small freshwater lake and closed off by land from the Atlantic. Then around 12,000 years ago the Ice Age ended and sea levels ended up rising about 120 meters. Now THAT was a warming and a sea rise. And guess what ? Our ancestors still survived.

The high priests of global warming in Europe said their computer tells them that the European Alpine region is undergoing its warmest period in 1,300 years.

The computer also told the scientists that women using hairspray in the 1950s caused the earth to cool. Then it said that since the 1980s, Americans driving evil SUVs caused the Alpine mountain ranges to warm.

Similar warming occurred in the 10th and 12th centuries, said Reinhard Boehm, a climatologist at Austria's Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics.

This, of course, raises the question of what were the Europeans driving in the Middle Ages that caused the warming?

The reconstruction of the Alpine climate involved divining temperature, sunshine and cloud cover over a 1,300 year period by reading computer entrails.

The scientists also studied tree rings and ice. However, they have yet to uncover any 10th or 12th century SUV engines.

read the time magazine article dated...June 24, 1974..."another ice age"....it is all about global cooling...chnage the words cooling to warming and the article was repeated recently!!!!

scientists can not yet determine...true direction....

but either way...all lib/dems have determined the true cause of both global cooling and global warming......

Scientists insist that the lower estimates for sea levels and the human impact on global warming are simply a refinement due to better data on how climate works rather than a reduction in the risk posed by global warming.

One would think the best decision, in the face of incomplete information, would be to err on the side of the status quo. The many scientists seem to be doing the opposite, why should I not assume that continued "refinement" will continue to lead to downward revisions in the estimated impact?
