For Now, an Unofficial Rivalry-Possible Clinton-Obama Presidential Clash Has Senate Abuzz

On Wednesday night, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy hosted the nine Democratic members of his health and education committee at an intimate dinner in his home in Washington's Kalorama neighborhood. The surroundings were stylish, the food home-cooked and tasty.

And then there was the entertainment.

The gathering included a former presidential candidate, Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, and a close friend of Kennedy's, Sen. Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut. But the star attractions were Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois, two junior committee members who may be duking it out for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination in a matter of months.

The air was thick with ambition. "I don't know why we're here, Bernie," Rep. Sherrod Brown (Ohio) quipped to a fellow senator-elect, Rep. Bernard Sanders (I-Vt.), as the guests walked into the dining room.

Ah yes, the media will make it seem like Hillary and Obama are fighting each other tooth and nail (they won't).

Then, in an olive-branch gesture, Hillary will ask Obama to be her running mate and the media will release the doves.

With Obama at her side, Hillary will cement the black vote as well as the female vote.

She will be invincible unless the GOP can stage an equally compelling duo.

I heard that instead of Hillie going to Iowa, she told Iowa to come to her.

And Iowa went.

If Obama does join the ticket in this charade, it could be trouble. I still remember Jimmy Carter and that toothy grin of his coasting to victory over Ford because the media anointed him and didn't challenge his goofy ideas before the election. Obama is a cipher with a grin. He could be big trouble.

This is just a story to keep both of these turkeys in the news. Actually, it is also trying to change the perception of these turkeys to eagles, but IMHO this is doomed to fail.

Look, Hillary knows that Democrats have been losing the black vote over the last few elections. Obama can lock it up.

Hillary knows that the majority of the female vote is the key to victory. Her gender locks that up.

Someone please show me how Guiliani or McCain or anyone currently being dicussed can beat her?

She can beat herself when she starts giving speeches in that lame nasal Midwest tone of hers. She is easily beatable on that level, if the press is fair and balanced in its reporting.

How silly! If her husband could speak by minimizing the southern drawl to win the White House, I think Hillary will demonstrate a surprising ability to give rousing speeches by 2008.

And if you think the media will be fair.......

"During a routine vote yesterday morning, Obama and Clinton brushed past each other on the Senate floor. Obama winked and touched Clinton on her elbow. Without pausing, she kept walking."

His hand will fall off now.

Neither is qualified. But Hillary might pick him as a running mate for his speaking abilities so she can keep her big fat mouth shut so she doesn't say things like f'n Jew and plantation.
