Poll: California voters still like the power they have at the ballot box, express optimism for bipartisanship in Sacramento (full title)

A new PPIC poll finds that 69 percent of the voters who participated in the Nov. 7 election are satisfied with the initiative process. This despite the fact that the ballot contained 13 measures

* Immigration is rated the top issue (20 percent of voters), followed by the economy (14 percent) and education (13 percent)

* Fifty-eight percent of voters surveyed say they expect the governor and Legislature will be able to work together to accomplish a lot next year.

* Sixty percent of voters approve of the job Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is doing, while only 36 percent approve of the job the Legislature is doing.

The report has some interesting information:

"The new survey – which polled 2,000 voters in the 12 days following the election – finds that, by a wide
margin, voters were more likely to say that November’s election made them feel better about California
politics (30% to 14%), although for 54 percent it made no difference. That is a long and large difference
from PPIC’s 2005 post-election survey when 38 percent of voters said the special election made them
feel worse and only 21 percent said that it made them feel better about state politics."

This is the way it's supposed to be; let the states be the laboratories. No matter how flaky California is I still believe that the proper way to read the constitution is that any powers not specifically given to the federal government are reserved to the states or the people. Prop 13 is perhaps the greatest and most important initiative ever passed.

Lost of stuff in the report itself (link in my post 1):
More:

"Moderates key to Schwarzenegger victory — Page 22
Self-described moderate voters supported Governor Schwarzenegger over challenger Phil Angelides
by a double-digit margin (57% to 39%). Schwarzenegger also enjoyed majority support among both
men and women (59% and 54%, respectively), and was helped by the backing of 30 percent of
Democrats and 54 percent of independents."

Keep finding more interesting stuff in the report (page 22 of the report):

80% of Conservatives voted for Arnold

16% of Conservatives voted for Angelides !!!

92% of Republicans voted for Arnold

5% of Republicans voted for Angelides.

What this demonstrates is that a sizable fraction of the third party / "independent" types who claim to be conservatives, are indeed DICCs (Democrats in Conservative Clothing).

Self-described moderate voters supported Governor Schwarzenegger over challenger Phil Angelides by a double-digit margin (57% to 39%).

Just more proof that "self described moderates" are liberals in denial. This time they had two liberals to choose from; the honest liberal, or the liberal in denial. Of course they voted for one of their own.

"moderates"/indpendents breaking for the Dems 2 to 1 is NOT news, it's well known.

CALIFORNIA VOTER AND PARTY PROFILES

http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/JTF_VoterProfilesJTF.pdf

"The Democratic Party currently has an advantage of 1.4 million voters over the Republican Party (7.1 million to 5.7 million) or 9 percentage points (43% to 34%), according to the Secretary of State.

Among those most likely to vote in this year’s elections, Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 7-point margin (44% to 37%), while 15 percent of likely voters are registered as independents.

... the fact that independents are more likely to lean toward Democrats than Republicans (42% to 28%) tends to work to the disadvantage of the GOP in statewide elections."

====

16% of those claiming to be conservatives voting for Angelides isn't really news for some of us -- but it IS evidence that a number of people running around claiming to be conservative were and are indeed shilling for the Dems, trying to divide conservatives to help the Dems.

BUT, as I said before, anyone voting for Angelides is NO CONSERVATIVE.

Let me repeat once again, slowly:

Anyone can vote for whomever he/she wants to, but BUT ANYONE VOTING FOR A LEFTIST, SOCIALIST, MARXIST DEM, LIKE ANGELIDES, IS NO CONSERVATIVE AND HAS NO RIGHT TO CALL HIMSELF/HERSELF ONE.

Let me repeat slowly for your troubled comprehension... You can't prove anything! No one saw me do anything!! And I'm still a CONSERVATIVE in black and white!!!

I can't prove this either, but I firmly believe, based on all the comments I read before the election, that NO FReeper voted for the Greek Geek! Not one!!! So there!!! Phhhhhhhhhhhht!!! Ha Ha Ha!!! You're too funny... and you're silly, too!!!

Probably one of them "Main Street Republicans" or "It's my party too" type folks.
It seems that lots of folks go around callin' themselves conservative these days, no matter how liberal they are.
