Reyes appearance on C-Span is very revealing about where he stands and what we can expect as he heads the intel committe in the House.
TOPICS: Foreign Affairs; Government; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: border; iraq; militias; reyes
Reyes,Dem.Texas(acts like a pubbie) says we went into Iraq on the cheap says we needed many more troops and advocates 20,000 more now temporarily to clean up Baghdad and the militas. He is a former exec. in the Border Patrol for 26 years and Viet Nam vet.

Actually the guy is pretty impressive, when asked if other dems will go along with getting rid of the Mooktadad type militia wackjobs he said some might others won't, pretty straight forward for a dem I thought.

To this end we could really use the 6 army divisions that his Parteigenosse Klinton has disbanded.

Exactly, that's part of the entire problem. We have very poor intel now a days and the "peace dividend" decimated troops and the military in general.
If we had continued with a slow steady increase in the military after Reagan won the cold war it would be a different world today IMHO. Instead we went in reverse with the military and today we pay the price.

"peace dividend" was only in the eyes of the beholder (Democrats), cause America was attacke incessantly at that period (WTC I, Embassy in Kenia, Embassy in Tanzania, USS Cole), OBL was building the terrorist force in Afghanistan unhindered, and NATO was enforcing the no-fly zones in Iraq, where the state of war never ended since Desert Storm. Doesn't look like much of a peace time to me. It was a pre-war time, and, normally, sane and responsible leaders use that time to get prepared for the impending war, build up the military, not to disarm.

I would also respectfully disagree about the poor intel. We entered Iraq on the premise that Saddam did have WMD, because the burden of proof was on Saddam, not on George Bush. Saddam was supposed to have reported on what he had done with his WMD, which he was proven to have had and used against his own population and the Iranians.
