An Islamic civil rights group wants a columnist removed from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council for criticizing Rep.-elect Keith Ellison's decision to use the Quran during his ceremonial swearing-in next month.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations said Monday that comments by Dennis Prager, a columnist and conservative talk radio host, displayed an intolerance toward Islam that makes him inappropriate to serve on the council, which oversees the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
President Bush appointed Prager in August to fill the remainder of a five-year term, which expires in January 2011.
In his column last week, Prager wrote: "Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress."

U.S. Constitution (American law) and Quran (Islamic law)
The Bible is not the law in America. The Quran is law in a theocracy.
Who and what will Ellison be pledging his allegiance to if he uses the Quran in his oath of office to uphold the law?
Fixed it.

And I believe that Ellison is displaying intolerance to Christianity by bringing the Koran to his swearing in. Therefore he should not be allowed to be seated in Congress. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Praeger over these... people, now and forever!
Prager made a jackass of himself, but I don't think that he needs to be thrown off of the Holocaust Memorial Museum committee.
Wonder when this Ellison character is gonna change his name to Mohammad #%$&*, couldn't have gotten elected with a Islamic name I don't think.
They are not idiots...they are following their stated plan to take us over: There is an article here outlining their plan....called the Niightmare...or something, I can't find it now. But it is here and this is part of it. They are relentless and they are progressing and they are using our "tolerance" against us.
The only JA is Ellison. He has shown himself to be completely
antithetical to America. He is a supporter of Louis Farrakhan.
I'm sorry, bud, but your dead wrong.
You are talking about a man who hates Jews,Christians and all
other infidels. Thank godness for Praeger; at least one voice in this PC world who will call a dog a dog.
I have issues with what Islam advocates, and also have reservations about a muslim congressman. However, we do have freedom of religion and the man was elected. The FBI should be watching hime very closely.
Prager's suggestion that people should have to swear on the Bible to serve office is ridiculous. The Bible is not a legal document under US law, and there is no reason why an elected official should have to swear on any religious document.
This has gone right over your head....swish. This is in your face with the Koran. First time in history that one has not sworn on the bible.
One thing I don't understand about Obama....I thought that if you were born a Muslim, you couldn't change religion. Could you or someone else clear this up?
It hasn't gone over my head. The real issues have gone over your head because a congressman swearing on the Quran is far less important than the fact that our PC government is afraid of profiling muslims in airports or in even acknowledging that our enemies our muslim. I am also more concerned about the fact that a muslim was elected to congress than I am about what he puts his hand on when he takes an oath. If the guy is muslim then the Bible obviously has no moral significance to him so swearing on it would be a hollow act. Prager said himself on FOX News that he wasn't angry about the fact that it was a Quran, but by the fact that it was not a Bible. I take issue with his opinion because one does not have to be a Jew or Christian to hold political office in the US.
I think that Prager's objection, and the similar objections of a lot of FReepers, are a manifestation of his nervousness over having a Muslim take a seat in Congress. Prager can't come right out and say that he's nervous about Ellison being a Muslim, so he couches it in an argument for tradition.
Whether or not Ellison deserved to be elected is moot - I voted for Allen Fine, and we lost. In two years, I'll probably vote for another Republican, and, barring tragedy or political gaffe of monumental proportion, Ellison will likely beat my guy then as well. His is a very blue district, and it's probable that he'll be around for a long time.
I don't think he was ever a muslim. I think his parents are Christians from somewhere in Africa. I am going on memory, but I think I am correct.
