First Class travellers on a British Airways transatlantic flight were horrified when they were forced to sit next to a dead body for three hours.

The elderly passenger had died of a heart attack just minutes earlier and was carried into their cabin to continue the journey to America.

'There was a call over the loudspeakers for a medical doctor. From where I was sitting towards the back of First Class I was aware of them performing resuscitation techniques behind the curtains as I tried to watch the in-flight movie - Mission Impossible III.'

'I felt quite uneasy. But some passengers were being very British about it and simply not acknowledging there was anything wrong. ... She added:'The chap's wife came in an sat with him on the little buddy stool at the bottom of the bay in front of the seat. She was very distressed. We could hear her sobbing.

'It's not very enjoyable when this happens. But the staff were very good.' -

I'm sure the family DEEPLY regrets the interruption of Mission Impossible III but let's all thank God that the passengers were able to be "British" about it and ignore the sobbing of a distressed widow.

Did the passenger relieve himself of all bodily functions? I saw a guy die and he wet himself...not that he cared.

I heard that you lose bladder control when you die.

Well, as Gweneth has informed us, the British are much more intelligent and sophisticated

Some people do, but a lot don't. If the bladder is full, they'll void. If not, they don't.

I had posted this a little earlier on another thread about the Navy and Guam..... kinda weird that I read this story now!

"They med evacuated someone from the civilian hospital out on a commercial flight we were on to Hawaii... patient had had a stroke or heart attack or something...not the best medical facilities on the island, as I recall. Flight got pretty interesting when the person coded with about 2 hours left to go on the flight. There was a flight nurse on board with him, but the captain got on the p.a. and asked for anyone certified in CPR to volunteer, so they lined up in the aisle and just kept taking turns until we got to Honolulu. There were quite a few military on the flight, and I think that is who most of the volunteers were.... don't know how the guy turned out, but it didn't look good!"

A friend lost his father and he was in the room. There was a loud prolonged fart. He said it seemed appropriate because his dad...well his dad like his finger pulled often. He recounted the story as a bittersweet memory.

I'm not making light of death. I just wondered if the man sitting on the plane was clean or soiled.

That's another reason why the cat takes transatlantic ships when travelling overseas. When a suckah kicks the bucket on a ship, they just throw the carcass aboard. No one will know better!

The human body seems so superior until the moment it gives way.

My sympathy to the widow and family.

It's not just the bladder that lets loose.

Anyway, it's a sad story.

If only they had upgraded him earlier, all this could have been avoided. Sheesh, service ain't what it used to be.

Did they want the body moved to coach, or did they want it jettisoned out of the cabin?

I get a kick out of the errors in the article.

The tragedy happened on BA Boeing 777 Flight 213 which left Heathrow from Boston at 10.30am carrying more than 200 passengers but details have just emerged.

Left Heathrow from Boston? That must have been quite a feat.

The deceased American had been travelling with his wife in the Club Word business class section

Club Word. It's the fresh way to fly. Fo shizzle.

Gweneth has informed us, the British are much more intelligent and sophisticated

When George Harrison died, my clock radio went off at 6:00 AM sharp tuned to the local news station, WBZ 1030. They led off the 6:00 AM news segment with a tape of the newly room temperature Sir George delivering himself of some pointless and artlessly expressed views on Godknowswhat. Interrupted from a sound sleep, and knowing not that I was privileged to be lectured at by a such a profound and august person, I turned to my wife and groggily remarked, "Why's Onslow on the radio?"

Onslow reminds me of Professor 'Enry 'Iggins characterization of Liza Doolittle's father, "The most original thinker in England today."

I'm sure that Gweneth appreciates British sophistication even more than I do.

In 1972, we were going on home leave from England. We had left Heathrow and crossed Ireland and were headed home. The captain came on and asked if there was a doctor on board. A guy got up and went up to the cockpit. He came right back out, and the captain came back on and asked if there was a MEDICAL doctor on board. Turns out there were no doctors on board. A lady had started hemorraghing, so the captain turned the 747 around and we landed at Shannon. Doctors/ambulances met the plane and the lady was taken to the hospital there. After we took back off, a lot of the pax were complaining that they were going to miss their connections; why couldn't she have waited until we hit the point of no return, they asked. We missed our connection in Baltimore and had to spend the night there in a hotel. People can be real jerks.
