Southern teachers to discuss unrest
(TNA) - The teachers' confederation in the five southern border provinces will meet on Saturday to consider the future of schools in the South, and to present ideas and demands to the government about the violence in the region.
Teachers' confederation chairman Pairat Wihakarat said that representatives from teachers' organisations, allied civil society organisations, and other agencies concerned will attend the meeting to consider solutions to end the unrest and plans to propose them to the Prime Minister.
He said the government failed to respond to recommendations they previously submitted to the government.
The teacher confederation agreed that clear-cut solutions are needed and assistance should be extended to parents and students affected by the unrest.
The upcoming meeting will provide framework on preventing and suppressing the violence that has come to characterise life in the region.
Short- and long-term solutions on education management will be discussed at the meeting.
The meeting will also discuss issues ranging from establishment of a network of violence survivors, assistance to educators and government officials, and the government plan to designate a special development zone in the five southern border provinces.
They think throwing "assistance" or creating a "special development zone" at the area will stop the "unrest."
