Press Gazette's editorial team would like to thank all of its readers over the past 41 years, and all of those who have given us support in the recent difficult weeks.

The magazine's staff was informed tonight by managing director Simon Read that they were being made redundant with immediate effect.

UK’s Press Gazette Closes Down, After Rescue Deal fell Through; 41 Years in Operation

Press Gazette, the UK equivalent of Editor & Publisher magazine here, has closed its doors after 41 years in operation, after attempts to rescue weekly magazine (though buyout options and others) failed. The staff of 20, including 12 journalists, have been laid off. An effort by an industry consortium to buy it failed this week: Two national newspaper groups, Associated Newspapers and the Telegraph Media Group, failed to get rival companies including News International and Guardian News & Media to join.

The magazine recently redesigned its online site and was attempting to make a go of it online.

A shame. The Press Gazette was not "the UK equivalent of Editor & Publisher"; it was everything Editor & Publisher should be but isn't.

If the socialist UK can't keep the Press Gazette alive, how long before "Dumb as a Stumpf" and the E&P crowd bite the big one?
