Excerpt -

Iran is smuggling weapons through Syria to re-arm Lebanese allies Hizballah, despite renewed efforts by United Nations peacekeepers and the Lebanese army to seal off the mountain borders with Syria in the wake of last summer's war between the Shi'ite militia and Israel, according to reports by Saudi and Israeli intelligence sources that have been confirmed by western diplomats in Beirut.

Oh what a shock. And I was such a big believer in the idea that diplomacy could work with terrorists and rogue regimes, that they'd never even dream of cheating or trying to subvert international peacekeeping efforts. I really thought we could make peace deals with terrorists and their supporters! This just blows my whole world apart. /sarc off.

The 1860 civil war left more than 15,000 Christians dead and more than ten thousand homeless. Later, however, the Ottoman foreign ministry imprisoned the Druze leaders involved in the war, and even punished a number of Ottoman officers and officials for having failed to prevent the 1860 civil war.

This was the first Lebanese civil war between Christians and Muslims.

Just a bit of history, as an aside.
