There's no draftin here, Charlie
Washington Times ^ | 11-21-06 | Wes Pruden

Posted on 11/21/2006 11:43:26 AM PST by JZelle

Rep. Charlie Rangel's trial balloon, put aloft to see whether there's any sentiment in the new Democratic Congress to reinstate the military draft, was aimed at Baghdad but the balloon, fully deflated, landed somewhere between Capitol Hill and Bowie. Mr. Rangel insists he's serious, but Nancy Pelosi, the speaker to be, says no, he's not. All good ol' Charlie is trying to do, she says, is to make a point that blacks and Hispanics are carrying a disproportionate burden in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the war effort should be "a shared sacrifice" and his legislation is "his way of making a point."

"Mr. Rangel's disgust is misplaced. Anger at the disproportionate share of sacrifice overlooks the fact that this is a volunteer army and the soldiers are where they want to be. Mr. Rangel may be right that a lot of mamas don't want their boys to grow up to be soldiers in Baghdad, but it's also true that a lot of mamas don't want their boys to grow up to be congressmen"

Way to go Wes!

"and his legislation is "his way of making a point."

Yep. The days of passing legislation to make a LAW are over. Charlie is indulging in slop and the taxpayers are forking over the dough. And to think he wants MORE money for New York. I'm sure there are no other issues Mr. Wrangle could be dealing with. What a waste of dollars.

Waste of time and effort to have this poor quality piece of humanity re-elected.

Too bad Pruden buys into the canard that African-Americans are disproportionately overrepresented in the US armed forces by excess, when they are actually disproportionately underrepresented.

And they are even more underrepresented in combat arms than they are in combat support forces.

Seems a bit patronizing of Nancy to think she needs to explain to us what Charley meant to say. I think Charley should be able to speak for himself.

Too bad Namcy thinks Americans are too stupid to understand Charley's subtle games.

So according to Nancy, Rangel is Borat and all Freepers who jumped on his bandwagon are the credulous dups we are all supposed to laugh at? Sounds about right to me.

The NBA has a disproportionate share of the white male population in it's league. Please pass legislation that would allow more young white men the chance to play in the NBA.

:-)

Blacks are under-represented in the Iraq/Afghanistan...just like they were in Viet Nam.
