As far as I can tell, this is yet another in the long list of polls that does not give respondents the option of choosing the attrition strategy. It no doubt presented the choice as being between the path to citizenship versus draconian mass deportations.

As such, it is worthless; just another poll designed to get a certain result, and when it gets those desired results, the media uses it to push its far-left views on immigration reform.

Uh huh. If you believe this poll, then most Americans favor high taxes, high unemployment, double-digit interest rates, health insurance rates that are like paying college tuition, and being treated like crap by people who can't even curse you in a language you understand, too.

I don't doubt the results of this poll at all. I think it reflects public opinion pretty accurately.

If its Reuters its WRONG.

yes another misleading poll.

If we ask people about a true guest worker program. Once which is NOT liked to illegal aliens AND is not a conversion to legal citizenship then most would support it as a LIMITED PROGRAM. Guest means guest. Guests GO HOME.

If it is convertable to citizenship then all you have is the current green card where a permanent resident who has an "anticipation of returning to their home country" can change their mind and become a US Citizen by application.

"Most Americans favor guest-worker program"

Guess what. We already got these programs.

Bush wants more to depress wages more.

"Two-thirds of Americans favor a guest-worker program with a path to citizenship," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Let's see. Now what can "AMERICANS" mean? Well, the term covers all people on the continents of North America, South America, and Central America. So, if these people polled the North and Central American illegal border-jumpers, it's a sure bet they'd be in favor of fleecing United States citizens...

Come here legally, or don't come here at all. If you are currently here illegaly, you are an invader and should be treated as such.

When they changed the name from attrition theory to attrition strategy, it became a viable alternative?

And, some will respond to the OBL'ers and they will know how it feels to

Freepers, of all people, should know not to trust a 'poll' where the questions are not available, only the results as interpreted by a know leftist 'news' entity.

The results of pretty much any poll are useless without the exact wording of the questions asked.

I'm fine with a guest-worker program, and even expanding the number of slots available for permanent legal residency/citizenship... but NOT for illegals. These programs should ONLY be available to people who have respected our nation's laws and sovereignty. Any person who has chosen to illegally be in the U.S. already should be permanently disqualified. Any illegal caught here should be fingerprinted and forever barred from any kind of legal residency. Only those who go through the proper channels should be allowed to legally reside in this country.

The questions that were asked are here:

quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=988

The question "Do you support or oppose creation of a guest worker program that would allow illegal immigrants to register for temporary legal status and employment?" is misleading when considered in light of the long-term "guest" worker schemes proposed.

However, the other question is not as obviously misleading: "Currently illegal immigrants cannot apply for citizenship. If the law were changed to allow illegal immigrants to register into a guest worker program, should that program offer them the ability to work toward citizenship over a period of several years?"

It would have been more accurate if they had then asked people about all the negative effects of that scheme, such as unending chain migration, further illegal immigration by those hoping to be part of a future amnesty, increased political power for the Mexican government inside the U.S., etc. etc.

If you didn't literally fall off the turnip truck you will be presented with carefully shaped questions designed to make you appear that you did. If you choose not to participate your input isn't included - if you comply your opinion is shaped into the desired result.

That's not a poll...that's modern propagandizing. I suspect that this is just a glimpse into the hyper-cynical future of political gamesmanship we'll be subject to while the neocon-Democrat partnership burns through the remainder of our Constitution.

Why do I feel under attack here of late when posting conservative viewpoints? The attempts to blame conservatives for the neocons' overall failure is lame to all who bother to read and analyze. The problem is the majority of sheep who refuse to do that much.
