Welcome to the Academic World, where once free speech, open discourse, and diversity of opinion, was the hallmark of such a place. Now, the Orwellian Gestapo of Political Correctness, stifles free and open discussion, forcing all opinion in a direction that is acceptable to the rulers of the institution.

They do this same thing everywhere from the Masters to political conventions- I've never felt compfortable with setting up an area far from "the action" and saying you can only speak freely there.

The original protest was held at a Clemson The original protest was held at a Clemson Gay Straight Alliance rally, which was not at one of two free-speech areas mentioned in the university's policy.

Does it not seem strange to anyone else that only the group protesting a Gay Straight Alliance rally were sanctioned but there is no mention of those conducting the rally being similarly sanctioned?

It would seem, according to the article, that both occurrences happened at places other than designated free speech zones.

If the protesters are to be punished, why not those against whom they were protesting?

"The free-speech areas provide the university with a way to be aware of events happening on campus so student safety is protected, Smith said Friday."

Freedom of speech and freedom of assembly... neither of these is a "right" on college campi for conservatives.... all in the name of safety doncha know!
