(DO NOT MISS THIS ARTICLE!) State workers can divert union dues to charity

Here we go, folks. This is how to take some of the political power away from unions, a huge funder of the Dems. They use Republicans' money to fund the Dems. It must stop. The unions, particularly the teachers unions, will be Hillary's footsoldiers in 2008. You are going to love this. I am working with a teacher friend to have his money donated the the NRA Foundation. ================================================================= =================================================================

State workers can divert union dues to charity U.S., Ohio officials reach settlement in discrimination suit Saturday, September 02, 2006 Julie Carr Smyth ASSOCIATED PRESS

State employees should be able to donate their union dues to any charity, not just a church, when they have religious objections to how the money’s being spent, state and federal officials agreed yesterday in a settlement.

In an agreement hashed out with the U.S. Justice Department and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the state and its largest state employee union have agreed to give all employees — not just active churchgoers — the same opportunity to divert their union dues to another organization for religious reasons. The settlement affects 37,000 of Ohio’s unionized public employees.

"The law protects the religious observances, practices and beliefs of all Americans," Wan J. Kim, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division said in a statement. "I applaud the Ohio state officials for working with the department to resolve this case."

The settlement came in a case involving Ohio Environmental Protection Agency employee Glen Greenwood, who objected to paying union dues because he believed the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association supported abortion and same-sex marriage causes. Greenwood did not belong to a church to which he could direct those dues.

While the union had a policy allowing employees with similar objections to donate their dues to churches, synagogues or other religious organizations, it had no provision for those without church affiliations to donate to a secular charity. The agreement concedes the policy violated equal-protection statutes.

Association spokesman Peter Wray said the union’s latest state contract, finalized in February, contains a procedure for "religious exemption" that satisfies the terms of the deal. He said the original language was intended to prevent members from diverting dues to illegitimate religious organizations.

Two other state unions, the Ohio Education Association and the Service Employees International Union, also have agreed to similar contract language.

Ben Piscatelli, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, said the state will be informing its unionized employees of their right to make charitable donations rather than pay union dues in light of the settlement.

If you are a teacher or know a teacher, let's get on this! We can take millions and millions of dollars away from union thugs for their Democratic Party politics.

This case with the state is going to allow any union member to send his dues to charity. Let's cut the union political money by 40% and do the Dems some major league damage.

I don't get this - how can the State be unionized. Or a church, even? Also, why are these people still forced to pay dues?? If they don't want their money going to the union, why aren't they allowed to not pay in? It's still telling them what to do with THEIR money, whether it's going to the union or to a charity. What if they don't want to give to a charity, either?

Clinton never had the Beck decision enforced. The unions fought Bush every step of the way. Finally, there is a settlement between a union and the state/fed govt. Some states are not "right to work" states, which means that people can be forced to join a union. At least, they will now have the ability to make sure their money doesn't get used for political purposes.

At least regarding the teachers unions, it has been established that they can either give the entire amount to charity or they can demand a refund of that portion used for politics. A few years ago, I helped a teacher friend get back about $380. The union was not pleased.

bump for publicity...
good news for those with mandatory membership in stinky unions;
a chance to deprive the fiends of the only oxygen they care about

Let's get involved in this. It could be what makes the difference in keeping Hillary out of the White House. Wouldn't the leftists and the homosexual agenda thugs go ape**it if millions of dollars are given to the Boy Scouts?

Brilliant!! Of course, the Unions will just form a 'charity' which will do nothing but lobby Congress. But at least it will change the dynamics.

No, the donor will determine the charity. Boy Scouts sounds good.

"...Ben Piscatelli, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, said the state will be informing its unionized employees of their right to make charitable donations rather than pay union dues in light of the settlement..."

#1) - Is this limited only to Ohio?
#2 - If it is, how do we get it extended to all States?

What a great idea, Doug! Good find!.............FRegards

I have been working on this problem for some time with teachers. Ohio may be the beginning of some major problems for the unions across the country. The federal government was involved in the negotiations and settlement. We need to take this ball and run. The financial implications to unions is staggering.

Doug?
Is this only for state workers?
I work in a Union Drug Store & I would love to get their greedy paws off the dues I am forced to pay.

That particular case was about a state employee in Ohio. There is considerable case law now for you to be able to do the same.
