Jonathan Narvaez-Pena admitted to drinking 10-15 shots of tequila before getting into his Buick Park Avenue and speeding through the streets of Nashville on the night of October 21, 2006. Narvaez-Pena, an uninsured illegal alien with a prior arrest for driving without a license, ran numerous red lights before crashing into the Bumvu family's car. Antoine Bumvu, 43, and his two-year-old son, Eddy, were killed in the accident.

Hey, that's their culture. If you don't like it, that's your problem, you bigot. Get used to it.

If we only gave them amnesty this would all change.

Then they can go drink 10 or 15 shots of tequila, get in their Buick Park Avenue and then go kill a couple of US citizens all while driving LEGALLY!

Basically the ER is a societal dumping place for these people. The ER pretty much serves as their doctors office, which makes it difficult for those people who really do have emergencies. Also take into account the fact that the hospital has to eat the costs for these people, making health care more expensive for the rest of us. The hospital's hands are tied in this because they can't refuse treatment to anyone who comes in the door.

"Basically the ER is a societal dumping place for these people."

I often work in the ER. I gotta say, it has become the dumping ground for many people, not just "these people." Believe it. Our health care system is a house of cards. I believe the problem began when government first got involved, with Medicare. The scope of the problem is so huge now that I don't see any solution. Real tort reform might work but will never happen.

Oh I believe it. I work in a hospital, and started to give many other examples of what is bad for ERs, but wanted to stay on topic for this thread. I don't know how the people working there can do it. To add to my remarks, the ER is just a societal dumping ground, period.

"The medical expenses for Omar Santos-Cruz, a 17-year-old construction worker injured while working on a development in suburban Birmingham, Alabama, may end up costing millions. Jefferson County, Alabama, Circuit Judge G. William Noble has ruled that Santos-Cruz, an uninsured illegal alien from Mexico, must receive workman's comp benefits and medical care for the rest of his life."

Oooookay. So who was he working for? And why aren't they in jail for breaking the law?

Does anyone else feel as I do, that I am the stooge who scrimps and saves to pay my monthly premiums on health insurance. Talk about dumb....

.I think everyone should withold their taxes for about 4 months until our government gets it's act together.

The culture these folks are from does not consider drinking heavily in conjunction with driving to be such a big deal.

The disregard for the law and safety does not vanish at the border....

The courts have said that NO-ONE can be turned away/denied care. Of course that leaves WHO to pay the tab? Those with insurance, and those without but do not qualify for gubmint healthcare...

What really amazes me is how many people (not just illegals) who go to the ER for "routine" health care like colds, headaches, stubbed toes, etc. 99.99% of those who do this never pay a penny for the care.

Very true. I was working on a computer in the ER registration area where I work and this lady walks up holding a kid saying her kid was running a high temperature. The registrar asked how high it was and the lady said it was 101, I couldn't believe it lol. It was in the middle of the day too. Just as I was wondering why she didn't go to the pediatric office, I overheard the lady telling the registrar she didn't have insurance. Hell, I have insurance and wouldn't take a kid to the doc with just a 101 temp, unless it was an ongoing thing.

Thank Congress for passing a law called EMTALA. That is the very law that is bankrupting communities and local hospitals all over the nation, and driving physicians out of practice.

Now the pundits are saying medical costs are going to go up nearly 11 percent next year, they want Americans with insurance to pay even more out of pocket.

If the president get his amnesty, the additional 60 to 100 million illegals with the chain immigration families will surely destroy the rest of our health care system.

And now insurers want to send you to India for surgery. Thats great, there won't be a surgeon or physician left in this country to practice because all the wealth we have for our medical care will be transferred out of country in a global socialist scheme to boost the economies of the third world. As an American, are you ready to make that sacrifice? The transnational corporations want to use "free trade" to drop doctors wages and limit the supply of doctors here.

Nationalized health care would be an absolute disaster! I always thought it would be a train wreck given the government's track record on everything else, but working in a hospital, seeing what goes into the operation of such an organization first hand has made the concept of such a thing unimaginable!
