LOS ANGELES -- Special effects explosions, idling vehicles, teams of workers building monumental sets -- all of it contributes to Hollywood's newly discovered role as an air polluter, a university study has found.
The film and television industry and associated activities make a larger contribution to air pollution in the five-county Los Angeles region than almost all five other sectors researched, according to a two-year study released Tuesday by the University of California, Los Angeles.
Although Hollywood seems environmentally conscious thanks to celebrities who lend their names to various causes, the industry created more pollution than individually produced by aerospace manufacturing, apparel, hotels and semiconductor manufacturing, the study found.

Irony... this is the real "Inconvenient Truth".
Thats very upsetting news. Where is AL GORE perhaps he and Michael Moore should expose this "Inconvenient Truth" Oh my what would the Dumbocrats do!
During the filming of "Behind Enemy Lines" they leveled the top of a mountain, cut down all the trees, dumped thousands of gallons of wax on the ground, (to simulate an icy lake) and sprayed huge ammounts of ground paper into the air to simulate snow.
I think it was filmed in Romania.
MAYBE THEY SHOULD EXPORT THESE HIGH PAYING JOBS TO CANADA OR MEXICO, MAYBE FRANCE. Evidently this is BUSH'S fault.
Ok - from a politically correct standpoint, only - let's list the crimes of "Big Entertainment" (aka Hollywood) - big polluter, glamorizes cigarette smoking, glamorizes violence, glamorizes hetero-sexuality... I'm sure I missed some.
glamorizes HOMO-sexuality
Does anybody really believe this piddling bit of fluff is going to affect earth's atmosphere one iota?
no - I meant glamorizes hetero-sexuality - remember, this is a politically-correct list. While Hollywood does glamorize homo-sexuality, Hollywood wouldn't consider it a crime.
VISUAL AND NOISE POLLUTION!
yes, lets shut down the largest remaining industry in Southern California....right after we close the port and those idling ships.
The nature of movie production is that you're constantly involved in construction activities. You'll note that they didn't compare the industry with anybody who's doing... say... home building.
Gosh... Sawing, hammering, painting and trucking sets from scene shop to stage causes more polution than a hotel... who'd-a-thought-it?
