A look at poverty in one American city amidst affluence. Some people have to work two or three jobs just to acquire the basics most of us take for granted. Behind the statistics is a human story.

Unchecked immigration, godless public schools, along with a culture of death, have helped to create this monster.

It is elderly people such as Rosalyn Jones, who owns her own home but has to spread out paying utilities through the year so she can afford heat in the winter....."Heat in the winter? Isn't Long Beach in Southern California?

Yeah, it sucks to be poor. Pretty long article just to say that. Heck, I could post my own sob stories, so could my wife. The ones I feel sorry for are the physically and mentally handicapped, or sick and injured, who have to rely on gov't largess. The rest of 'em can do like my wife and I did... get a job, go to school on student loans, and get a better job. Don't like being poor? Physically and mentally able? This is America, land of opportunity. Do something about it, or shut the hell up.

"human story"
Most of these people have "chosen" their own "story."
They have chosen to come heeere with no education. They have chosen to be unmarried. They have chosen not to care if their children are educated. I am tired of being the fall guy for other peoples bad choices. I hope the ones trying to make good choices succeed.

If you are that broke, you shouldn't be smoking. My husband and I both quit because of the expense. If you aren't willing to do the most obvious things to cut expenses, you won't change your situation.

It is people like Serey Hong, a single dad and survivor of the Cambodian genocide, who sleeps on a fold-out cot in his living room and worries about his son, who struggles to maintain good grades while majoring in biochemistry at Cal State Long Beach and working part-time. For some strange reason, I had this fleeting thought that MAYBE Mr. Hong is better off now, than when he was in Cambodia. But that's jut me....

Barf.
We live in a "Depressed Wage" area and my high school kid got a part time job in a burger joint that pays $6.00 and hour. At 40 hours a week, she can work as much as she wants and her grades allow, it would be $11,520 a year.
People are paid what they are worth (unless government steps in and makes the owner pay more).

I know there will be plenty of people here at FR that have the solution to some poor schmuck working 2 jobs just to make ends meet: just start a million dollar business !
Anyway, this article does have a lot of sob stories, but it's true. Just take a look at the job ads in the Sunday paper. Where I'm from, a typical help wanted ad looks like this: Mandatory 4 year college degree and 2 years experience in the field. Starting pay: $28,000.
I think that kind of thing is why people don't think the economy is all that swell. Sure, taxes are low and the stock market is high, HOWEVER comma, nobody is making anything!
There are plenty of reasons for this, but that's not the important part. The important part is that the vast majority of the work force make really crappy pay.

Diversity is a source of community pride in the "International City." Another BS myth courtesy of the MSM and misguided local politicians and chambers of commerce.

We won't be hearing any of these stories after the RATs are in power for a while. Reid & Pelosi, Inc. will take care of everything and everyone and all will be sweetness and light.
