Pelosi's test on national security
St. Petersburg Times ^ | 11/11/2006 | Editorial

Posted on 11/11/2006 3:12:27 AM PST by dawn53

As California Democrat Nancy Pelosi prepares to become the next U.S. House speaker, some of her more difficult decisions will be on who receives coveted committee chairmanships. The senior ranking member on the committee usually is elevated to chairman, but that isn't a hard and fast rule, and there are times when there is a better choice.

But on the House Intelligence Committee, bypassing the ranking Democrat would be a mistake. Rep. Jane Harman of California already has proven herself an informed, credible voice for Democrats on national security. The electorate is giving Democrats a chance, but there is still wobbly support for the party on questions of terrorism and national defense. Harman's depth of knowledge and moderate views would serve both the party and the nation well.

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: democrat; democrats; dnc; pelosi
From the liberal St. Pete Times...a warning to Pelosi. Interesting.

as soon as soros and moore tell her to appoint she will make up her mind, the MSM is already brainwashing the people to forget that pelosi is an extreme left wing radical who makes hillary look like barry goldwater.

Don't be fooled. Harman is no moderate. Don't forget....one of her staffers (Larry Hanauer) is suspected of being the source for the NIE leak.

...on questions of terrorism and national defense and just about every other issue. The Democrats didn't win by selling their wares to a larger share of the market. The Democrats won because the Republican leadership people spent one cycle too many violating the trust of their market.

The only problem is that pelosi has only two feet to shoot at.
It should be fun to watch, I just hope the damage to the Country is limited.

You wouldn't know it by the coverage, that's for sure. Somehow I don't think the '94 election was seen the same way. Just a guess.

You would never know it from all the adulation she is receiving from the press. If she can somehow get Bush and Cheney impeached, guess what?

Pelosi was fined heavily by the FEC a few years ago for illegally contributing money to congressmen in exchange for their vote to make her speaker. This was a serious ethics violation--vote buying on the House floor. I doubt the St. Pete paper had much comment at that time.

The St Pete times can afford to appear 'balanced' now, after all their preferred Communists (aka 'Democrats') have seized control of the Congress, a moderate bone or two thrown to the Republicans out in the cold costs them nothing and gives them the appearance of being 'responsible'.

The St Pete times is probably where a LOT of the former Pravda and Tass writers went to work after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the writers that were unable to get picked up by the NYT.

Here's another surprise. It would appear that the left is experiencing some "buyer's remorse" in VA, when Webb shocked them by classy behavior:
