Profligate spending and growth of government = disaster for Republicans. Case closed.

Show me the evidence that the Democrats (!) won tonight because Bush and the Republicans spend too much.

People tossed them out for overspending and put the Democrats in charge? Or are you going to say Republicans stayed away...except they didn't?

Excessive Republican spending = reduced Republican base turnout. Are you really that obtuse?

"Show me the evidence that the Democrats (!) won tonight because Bush and the Republicans spend too much."

I think it was a bit or a lot of many things mentioned here tonight. There have been many misplayed hands these last eight years. Now we all need to arrive at some sort of direction we want our party to go.

Bush played a role, Democratic lies w/MSM support played a role, lack of direction or a STRONG message too our side, from our side, and played a role, and many other things went wrong that caused tonight.

What is certain is that the poster of this thread is right on some things. Our country is now at risk because we will not continue to fight the WOT, that is done...at least until our the next attack on us. Until then the terrorists will have their way in the world. They will grow stronger. That is certain.

Our economic gains are at risk because the Democrats will take the tax cuts away for a war they will not fight either. Medicare and social security will not be dealt with and will GROW. Look to nationalized health care with an expansion of the prescription drug program that was started under Bush.

Illegal immigrants will be granted amnesty, mainly in an attempt to ensure an overwhelming voter base for the democratic party. This one thing will cause another slice toward death for our economy. It will also change our counry in ways we can not even picture as to society in general and crime in particular.

There is much we need to decide about what we want our candidates to support. None of us are going to solve it tonight, but those things are the facts. They are the state programs of the Democrats and/or their supporters.

Destroying each other is not going to solve the problems but ignoring what lies ahead will. We should table the blame game because the game is over for now.

We just need to decide on a path and work towards that. Where we are at now is NOT where we want to be in 6 months.

Exactly, by all reports, turnout was good for the Republicans in most areas. The exit polls all indicate that the election was seen as a referendum on Iraq, and based on the perception that we were losing, voted to toss the bums out. Of course by doing they probably guaranteed that we will lose... possibly a city or three.
